The Prof is right on target. The overthrow of Limann was a turning point in Ghana's economic and political history. Had President Limann served a full term as President, it would have changed the entire path of our history. We would have been seen as a mature democracy, and projected confidence to the rest of the world with all the positive effects such confidence brings.

Instead, we went through a tailspin of 19 years of stagnation when our state assets were completely looted or destroyed. Unlike other military governments which often inject discipline in laying down a strong foundation in development, even in the absence of democracy (e.g. Korea, until the generals were kicked out for good reason eventually), Ghana disintegrated into a lawless state and virtually nothing to show in terms of development. We are still paying for it. So, you put back-to back the Acheampong plutocracy and the Rawlings era of lawlessnes, why should we be surprised we are in such a state of affairs? Truth hurts, but it must be told.
