If Ghana does not have $350 million to pay for outright purchase and installation of 10 brand new gas turbines, but can afford $120 million per year, does it not make sense to either go for 'home used', (after all all the ones we have now were bought 'home used' and they are serving us well, and they are much less expensive than 'tear rubber'), or if we insist on brand new, then we buy 4 in a year. The major issue however, is why we don't just use the $120 million to buy fuel to run the existing plants which are not running at full capacity because of lack of fuel. Is it because going that route will mean little or nothing to steal?

Most of us buy things on credit and we end up paying more eventually so relate that experience to this power generators. I prefer this arrangement to sleeping in the dark and having more people lose their jobs and lives to dumsor. ACEP have just confirmed that we have paid nothing for the generators other LC which is just like a collateral. We did not even buy a bag of cement to have the generators installed on our soil and land Ghana. Per the arrangement we are fuelling it and paying monthly installment till the power plant becomes ours. I dont see how we a poor country should be crying foul at ghosts when

There was near pandemonium and confusion at the Annual Global African Investment Forum held in Westminster, Central London after a heated exchange between Ghana’s President John Mahama and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo degenerated into open insults.This was due to General Obasanjo openly accusing the Ghanaian president and his government of blackmailing and collecting bribes from Nigerian businessmen in Ghana, buying numerous properties in Nigeria and South Africa and financially contributing 12 million dollars to Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign last year. This infuriated President Mahama who lost his temper and pointing his finger, called General Obasanjo an ” idiot” and a “silly buffoon”.It took other ministers present as well as Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to calm tempers and usher President Mahama to a nearby room. The forum, which takes place from 1st to 3rd December is attended by African Heads of States Ministers, Private equity firms and investors to discuss opportunities for investment and development in African Economies.

Second, if it is true, was the $411 million the cost of equipment only or of both the equipment and the auxiliary items together?

When a company provides services to the state and people it is the cost of the service that we negotiate for and not what profit the company will be making from its products or service. I am not sure that Ameri is located in the free export zone, thus, if it is not in the zone, it is expected to pay tax and collect VAT on behalf of the state from VRA.

Clearly is not possible that cost of 5 turbines will be US$220 million, while installations, etc will cost $290million to make total cost US $510million.

It looks like there is another falsehood here because thermal generators do not have turbines. Turbines belong to wind and hydro electricity generators. Their engines are just like that of motor vehicles. The heat from their ...

Their engines are just like that of motor vehicles. The heat from their internal combustion is used directly to turn their rotor which is a magnet in a stator copper or any other coil to generate electricity.

This deal which John Mahama entered into through the Min of Power with all sorts of criminals wanted all over the globe was just but a thieving exercise, passed under a certificate of emergency by its parliamentary majority, thereby causing financial loss to the State, and people will have to go to jail for this criminality.
Having said that, it is clear all the supposed and required checks and balances to arrest and curtail and contain this increasing acts of thievery all failed.
The political activists dropped the ball. Anti-corruption activists dropped the ball. The media dropped the ball. The opposition dropped the ball. Parliament which is becoming one of the most useless institutions in this country after the Executive, dropped the ball and from what transpired, it is absolutely critical the rules concerning parliamentary procedures with the passage of any bills in the house need to be looked at again, critically reviewed again, and changed to inject sanity and intelligence in the instruments, bills and acts coming out of the legislature. Under what circumstances would deals, contracts, acts allowed to pass under a certificate of emergency and is the current practice not an abuse of the process? That nonsense of screaming yea, yea by the majority needs to give way to passage based on 2/3rd of the House because abuse of the poor Ghanaian taxpayer on the back of the Mahama-led NDC govt of thievery is now an altogether irresponsible frigging joke.
