News about Dzifa Attivors thievery has gone international. Read about how the international media reported it and the global comments that followed.

Accra (AFP) - Ghana's transport minister resigned Wednesday after a controversy erupted following reports she spent about one million dollars to repaint over 100 buses with portraits of the country's recent leaders.

Dzifa Attivor had commissioned a private firm to respray 116 imported passenger busses with the faces of the West African country's past leaders and current president John Mahama.

But the seemingly innocuous branding exercise became a rallying point for the opposition party and anti-corruption campaigners, who used the issue to criticise the ruling party's economic management of the country.

Attivor's resignation is the first in many years for Ghana and comes after citizens filed a court action against the government demanding details of the bus contract.

The contract "did not ensure value for money," said Ghana's government after reviewing the bus painting deal and called for a reimbursement of some of the money.

Ghana's economic growth has stalled in the face of tanking commodity prices, with the ruling party coming under fire for wasteful spending in the run up to presidential and parliamentary elections next year.

Earlier this week, President Mahama banned first class travel for public officials, warning them to avoid "unwarranted" trips.

The country was forced to look to the IMF for emergency loans to help bolster its ailing economy, struggling to change its fortunes amid a power crisis.

As part of the agreement with the IMF, Ghana's authorities pledged to rein in spending.

Corruption in Ghana and Africa is part of life and understood by many Ghanaians and Africans as normal. This is tip of the iceberg, if you have to dig through people in government civil servants and law enforcement agencies, you might have to put all of them in jail. I remember I was in Ghana in 2009 driving unlicensed car in the night, I was able to bribe my way out with three can tunas after I was pull over by the Police. Everyone wants you to pay bribe to get things done. So sad it's happening

We pointed out last year that all their projects were burdened or tainted by immoral corrupt selfish greedy appetites of the ndc and the kleptomaniac brothers of pepeni omanhene. If these projects ever make it to parliament or the president they are normally half baked very flawed or contaminated as the monies that should have been invested in the project development were spent buying favor or bribing ndc foot-soldiers , bureaucrats , technocrats etc into compliance. Now pepeni realizes he has less than 2 months to actual start something spectacular that if it doesn't win him the elections at least secure him a sizable strong opposition. If there in no success story then NDC will be rejected en mass by the people and fall to 10% of support which will mean that party will never again be entrusted with the helm of government. Most ministers will end up in jail or exiled if there is a peaceful transition , if they cause war almost all of them and their families will die horrible deaths in the imminent cutlass revolution .

The majority of Ghanaians said no to your greedy ambition of becoming the president of Ghana. So tell me, which Ghanaians are you talking about? Majority of Ghanaians from the eight regions said the humble President is doing well so he should continue, even the eastern region where you come from have given the President their surport due to the good works the President is doing for mother Ghana. So my question to you is, which Ghanaians are you talking about? Are you talking about Ghanaians from the only two regions that you have won? Please stop the hallucination because the majority of Ghanaians from the ten regions in addition to the eastern region that has also fallen for the President due to the great performance they have seen about the President, clearly define that you have already lost the coming election. You know why? My answer is simple. It's because MAJORITY CARRY THE VOTE. Majority of Ghanaians are with the President and have decided that he should continue. Who are the Ghanaians that are going to vote for you? They are few, therefore you can't beat the President. The humble President H E John Mahama will win again in Jesus' name. I have been consistently highlighting this point that unless the NPP can appeal to voters living outside of these 2 Regional Strongholds they stand zero chance of winning in 2016.
If I was part of the NPP Campaign Team I would focus resources in gaining voters from the Greater Accra, Central, Western and Brong-Ahafo Regions. In addition to their traditional stronghold of Ashanti and Eastern Regions this would see them winning 6 out of 10 Regions.

Apart from the fact that Nana Addo has no proud record of his stewardship as MP for 13 years, as an Attorney General and also Foreign Minister, he has shown his incompetence as leader of his own party NPP. How can Ghanaians trust such a man with their destiny? Shouting from rooftops of making Ghana paradise when one cannot show even a common KVIP toilet he constructed for his own people in 13 years as their MP, makes one believes such shouts are only for political power to enrich themselves.

If God said for this reason people would suffer in the hands of some dictator so it would happen but in Ghana some greedy politicians are thinking when they come to power they have the power to change things , fowl this is a fallacy.It can not happen that way, never in the history of mankind that our wishes prevailed. If in God's own wisdom he prefer Ghanaians to wallow in poverty , suffer for twenty years just to avoid this nation falling into the hands of some greedy psychopathic sycophants that would eventually plunge this great nation into war, so be it.We need deep wisdom here. Personally, I think Ghana needs a change from a political system dominated by the NDC & NPP. They have both in power since the 1990's and the economic problems that exist today can be put down to them. We will now be subjected to 11 months of daily lies, misinformation and promises that will not be kept if either of them are elected into Government. It is sad realisation that the NDC is labelled as a political party that caters for the interests of those from the Volta, Northern, Upper East & Upper West Regions. While the NPP, is labelled as catering for the interests of those from the Ashanti & Eastern Regions. What about the interests of those from the other 6 Regions of Ghana? The current political system will continue to provide National Government's that are viewed as not serving the interests of Ghana as a whole. You only have to read the tribalistic comments & insults posted on Ghanaweb on a daily basis to see how divided our country has become to see that something needs to change.
National Governments in Ghana has not worked since 1966, and will continue to fail the interests of people. The 10 Regions need to have increased powers to enable them to govern themselves. Democratically elected Assemblies in each of the Regions could be established and should have powers over income and expenditure. For example, the majority of the Oil income that will be generated from the Western Region, should remain for the benefit of those that hail from that area. Not end up in the pockets of corrupt Civil Servants and Ministers of State. The same applies to other resources in other Regions. Personally, I believe that we need a complete re-think over how Ghana is governed as the current 2 party system has failed and will continue to do so. Does anyone in Ghana know the income figures that each Region generates in cash and how much expenditure is spent on each Region? I do not but I would like to know. Why should Regions that generate more income than others receive less in expenditure than those that generate lower incomes? Devolution should be considered and although I was previously against the idea even Federal States would be better than the current mess.
Neither President Mahama or Nana Addo have magic wands to turn around the economy and make our lives better. The country will only improve if local people play a more active role in governing themselves.

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. Problem was, the parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious, and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary, but to no avail.
Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude In desperation, John threw up his hands, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.
Then suddenly, there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he'd killed the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arm
and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I am sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."
John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued.

Winning elections is not about holding press conferences and undermining your political opponents. It is about outlining what you can do, how you can do them. Holding press conferences in Accra won't fetch you even 50 votes. Your advisors are wrongly advising you. Ghana need change so I should get up at dawn to go and cast my vote for you? Tell us what you can do, how you will do it. Not just saying if I were the president, I will bring power crisis to an end. How you will bring it to an end should clearly be outlined. If not so everybody can say he /she could bring the situation under control.
