When Kwaku Baako informed us about the atrocities of Kwesi Pratt during PNDC Regime, some of us did not believe until the truth was confirmed during the NRC. Kwesi Pratt is the most dangerous Journalist Ghana had ever have, he had the gut to recommend his fellow journalists to be executed by PNDC. Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwesi Pratt can do. Now Pratt is a secret agent to NDC and US Embassy in Ghana. May God forgive Pratt and spare him the untold evils that will come upon him and his generations. The souls of those journalist killed through Pratt's recommendations to PNDC will never forgive Pratt. Now Pratt has the guts to take Diplomatic Passport and smuggled his weak-headed children to work at the Ministries under Mills NDC, may God forgive Pratt and his dependance and spare them of the evils ahead of them...

It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution

He should go and advise the American police there in that country where he lives, to prescribe those correct methods when arresting Black people.

The taxi driver was right in crushing his car against the armed robbers in the bid to arrest them. Any right-thinking person would support this move.

As for this idle-minded so-called Prof Asare, I advise him to come back down to earth. If he wants something to make him visible, he should look for more sensible reasons to advance his cause. Nonsense!

I listened to the interview with the taxi driver on Joy tv news last night and was horrified by what he said. According him, he decided to kill the armed robbers with his taxi when he became aware of what they had done. If that was the case then his intention was criminal. Though he did not succeed in killing them but his action caused their arrest, I do not think public funds should be used to reward him. Initially, I though a state award such as the Order of Volta was more appropriate than a house but after listening to his interview, that was even unnecessary. Perhaps, a replacement of his taxi is befitting. Mahama's government has misplaced priorities. The money for the house should be used to renovate a dilapidated school in rural Ghana.

Yes, the circumstances are relevant. However, had the taxi driver succeeded in killing the robbers with his taxi as he originally intended and publicly admit to intending to kill and killing them, would you suggest that he should be rewarded with a state funded house? I am purely looking at this case as law and order issue as well as human rights. What will happen if the state encourages citizens to take the law into their own hands as it happened in Kumasi when an alleged criminal was burnt to death (reported by the media yesterday)? Do we want lawlessness in Ghana?

By the way, Prof Asare and I do not comment on everything. I do comment on certain issues almost daily but not everything. Have a nice day.

But I cited context because in law, we get to the bridge before we cross it. The only thing to consider here is the evidence available, not what could or would have happened. And if you view the law in the context of this particular evidence, the Taxi Driver is a hero. Period.

Those criminals are not ordinary road users,they attempted to kill somebody and rob her and were ready to kill anybody to get away with their crime,even if that taxi driver had killed them he will still be a hero,those people don't deserve to live,they are harden criminals who should be killed.

And the question is what will the government do in a situation where a semi (articulated) truck driver who had not seen what the taxi driver saw earlier is now witnessing a taxi driver attempting to kill what appears to him (semi driver) as "innocent bike riders" and decides to intervene by running the taxi and driver over with his truck?

The first is that nobody has written anything about Kwame Nkrumah of late. This Dr SAS reacts to Kwame Nkrumahs name like a bull reacts to a red flag. He charges without thinking with all the passion at his disposal.

Secondly, he is at pains to make himself heard lest somebody takes him on, on his pet subject of detention without trial that the govt of the country which he now calls home, has now been exposed of committing.

And the Mahama cabinet has no sense of priorities from the very beginning. Remember the money they wanted to spend sponsoring those snake oil selling prophets to Jerusalem? I wrote him off within 3 months of being in office and loudly announced it on the Eweland and CEANA forums. Nobody dared challenge me. I have rather since then garnered my supporters. No Rose Gardens for Ghanaians indeed!

Prof. if you were the one to be attacked in the middle of the night, and he had a gun on you, would rather wait to call the police to arrive or you would use your judgement to fire your gun in defence. Sometimes, common sense should rule just as being responsible in the actions we take. A vigilante is also reponsible for his or action actions and be judged within a context. Let me be blunt here. The management of the store must be held liable for not putting in place internal controls to forestall such mishaps. In this modern day world at least they could arrange with their bankers to collect their daily takings every morning with their security vans rather than letting this poor sales girl carry this chunk of money every day. If the driver's aim was to drive his taxi car around looking for robbers who are escaping from crime to ram into them with his car then the driver could be labeled vigilante. According to the story, the driver happened to witness the scene of armed robbery in which the victim had been shot and the robbers were getting away on their motor bike. The driver's selfless and patriotic spirit started boiling inside him to do something. He did not have a registered gun but he had his registered car which could be lethal.

I want the law Professor to tell me what the poor driver should have done. Follow the robbers in his car to see their hideout and then go to a police station to report. Or beckon on them to slow down and tell them to follow him to the police station. Nonsense.

Armed robbers or terrorists with guns shooting at innocent people are susceptible to killing by even street crowd and it doesn't matter whatever they use - stones, crowbars, baseball bats, cars, etc.

The reward is non arbitrary and I don't see why some people are peeved about it. There is no amount stipulated for such bravery which Mahama over spent. The gesture incentivizes, therefore, should be lauded.

I agree with this "legal scholar" in principle. But I disagree with him in practical terms. In principle because what the cabbie did was vigilantism. However the "learned scholar" does not live in Ghana and he has little idea how pervasive us the lawlessness that pervades the society. There are armed robbers - some of them home grown (as apparently in this case), and others from neighboring countries who do what they do because they watch American movies and then act out what they see on the poor citizens of Ghana. We stop them by whatever means necessary! There is a sense of frontier justice that is apparent on the cabbie's response. It is true that driving one's car deliberately into someone is a criminal offence. So is shooting another human being but I would not hesitate to kill a gunman who is massacring my fellow citizens - if I had the opportunity to so act. Lawyers can make all the arguments they want to make but in the final analysis, we all have to be remembering that the survival of the society is paramount.

As to say, they all carry weights of expression of speech, nevertheless reality or truth can never be hidden.
Therefore, I cannot help thinking that the prof is right but can rather say he's defending his profession.
But this is a situation of " no assistance to a person in danger, which is subject to crime.
And the only weapon the driver was having at that time was his vehicle , so he did that for humanitarian sake but not to kill.

I won't justify criminality but Today Ghana has high youth unemployment, young women "kayayei" are exploited abroad for prostitution, young able bodied men and women stand of on road junctions selling low value products, etc. Businesses and factories shut down because of power problems. corrupt politicians and office holders steal all day long while they collect their salaries but do nothing to change the plight of the citizens. we rebrand buses with images of the president at high cost. there is the scandal of the power plants. the List goes on. when was the last time that anyone was rewarded for an invention or innovative idea that improved lives or had commercial value internationally. Government pats itself on the back for good governance but no one see how it impacts their life. it just goes on. From the time of kutu Acheampong Governments have used such rewards for small laudable deeds that come to public attention. it is as though government gets a reward for itself from the incident, but the real questions of state go unanswered or unsolved. it is all deception and manipulation of the people. Let us as a people put creative and resourceful citizens in positions of state. Above all they should be God fearing people with a lot of love and compassion for their country and it's citizens.

Why? When Kuffour spent millions hanging gold chains around his neck and his family and party members, was it not a precedent for looting for others to follow. You can twist the story in whichever way you like, the good Lord has a better reward for all those who shun evil and risks their lives to save others. NPP is wishing too much evil in Ghana to have crest on which to ride to power. What kind of warped thinking is this? If I have the guts like this taxi driver I will so similarly. Infact in America, if you are stopped by the police and you start putting your hand in your pocket as if to remove a gun, you would be shot to death straight, whether you had a gun or not. In some Nigerian states motor riding is banned. These are the getaway means for most robbers in Ghana. This driver risk his life to help arrest the armed robbers and u called them what "Suspected Armed Robbers ". It is Crystally clear that this two robbers did Rob the said Lady in a Dillinger style with onlookers running for shelter. The heroic deeds of the taxi driver did help to apprehend the two dangerous robbers and for that matter deserve any award deemed fit to giving to him by the state or any other institution.
