The president has been saying that he tried to introduce electronic payment and acquisition systems into the public sector {to reduce human contact with cash} in his effort to fighting corruption, but lamented that the systems were often resisted.

This has become so monotonous that Ghanaians are beginning to wonder whether the president is actually serious and interested in fighting corruption as he claims, or it's just another crocodile's tears to deceive Ghanaians into believing that he is making an effort, while the government and its cronies amass billions of dollars at the expense of this struggling HIPC nation.
Why should Ghanaians hire a president that can't even introduce an electronic system successfully into the public sector to save us from criminals masquerading as civil servants? Mr. Mahama must be seen to be fighting corruption with all his might rather than go on lamenting helplessly like the rest of us who hired him to do the job.

We have been in this country when the uncompleted extension of the runway of Kumasi Regional Airport has been described by the Mahama NDC gov't as an ultra modern international airport comparable to any international airport in the US, Germany, France, UK, Holland, China, Hong Kong, etc, etc. So what does the Mahama NDC gov't means by an ultra modern Kumasi central market because Ghanaians have had it with mediocre leadership and propaganda.

From his demeanour, family background, utterances, actions and inactions it is becoming more obvious who Nana Addo Dankwa Akkufo Addo aka “Odikro of no town” whose futile and nonsensical evidence presented to the great court of the land, champion by his “HIP POP LIAR Political Economist” Dr. Bawumia to deprive millions of Ghanaians a true choice is gradually becoming known to all.

It was by his actions that sent a grey signal to stakeholders of this country and scared majority of businesses especially the multi nationals and some local entrepreneurs to withhold their vibrant activities due to widespread of war mongering and collateral damage meted out to life and properties (especially when one considers the serial market burnings) which was looming in the country all because Nana Addo and his men have lost an election and they are simply refusing to accept defeat; when it was very glare that they have lost.

His great grandfather (JB Danquah) did same to Nkrumah and his father ( Edward Akkufo Addo) followed the same traits, who was later imprisoned and now it is Nana Addo’s turn .

He is leading a campaign of indiscipline and has so far portrayed no decency in mannerism, character or in speech. His proverbial ill character in the use of vile words against his opponents is very abhorring and anti-social. His public speeches are out of date and have no connection with current trends of social developments. .

Unfortunately he is deep into it there is something wrong with the chemical constituents that form the brain of these Dankwas/ Busia’s? Are there no wise men among them? Or did their fathers die with all the sense that will guide them today? Well a decorated monkey remains a monkey; like father like son. None have morals…….KWASEATO LIKE THAT !!!!

The writer of this piece is not an Asante but a proud son of the occupant of the Denkyira Bankamdwa (the Supreme Stool of Denkyira State), Odeefuo Boa Amponsem III, the Denkyirahene.

Pre independence history of Ghana (1696-1901) was dominated by the history of Asante's hegemony and the attempts by the British to subdue it military prowess. It is in view of this the writer is basing this article on Asante. This is not to exalt any ethnic group above the other, neither is it to make some ethnic groups seemingly more important than others but to highlight on latent events between the reigns of King Osei Tutu I and King Prempeh I of Asante. It's important for us to note that we are the past; we are the sum of all the events- the good and the bad- that have happened to us. This sum product guides our actions in the present. Similarly, the only way we can understand people is by studying their past. If we don't understand what made them who they are we will make all sorts of mistakes in our interactions with them. Therefore is important to learn our history.

After King Osei Tutu (1700-1717), the founder of the Asante nation defeated Denkyira, he annexed surrounding Akan states including Wassa, Sefwi and Twifo but not Akyem into his new Kingdom. Akyem state, which was founded by a branch of the Denkyira royal family, however after the defeat of Denkyira, took certain actions which were clearly intended to provoke Osei Tutu into war. First they offered asylum to Ntim Gyakari's successor, Boadu Akefun, King of Denkyira who had rebelled against the Asantehene. The other action was they declared their support and schemed to restore the Twifohene who had been deposed by the Asantehene. The Akyems even promised to go to the aid of the people of Fante where the Twifohene had sought refuge in the event of their being attacked by Asante in 1712. However, Asante needed to control the rebelled states first before raging war against the Akyems. Hence Amankwatia (Bantamahene), the commander-in-chief of the Kumasi army was sent to humble Twifo and other rebelled states. Twifohene was killed and in 1714 Twifo and Denkyira had returned to their Asante allegiance. Amankwatia was urgently called to Kumasi in 1715 with the Wassa forces because the Akyems were greatly frustrating Osei Tutu with a battle. *source: System of Ashanti (Oxford, 1951) p. 74*

In 1717, Opemsuo Osei Tutu led an Asante regiment into Akyem. Initially he underestimated the Akyems and upon realizing the contingent of the Akyems army, the Asante rear army decided to withdraw him (Osei Tutu) back to Kumasi. Unfortunately, whiles he was crossing the Pra River with the Asante rear army he was shot and killed by the Akyems. The Mamponghene, Akuamoa Panin thereupon took over the command of the army untilled Opoku Ware Katakyie (1718-1750) was enthroned on the Golden Stool.

King Opoku Ware immediately instituted the Great Oath of Asante, Kromante, the greatest instrument which kept the Asante union from disintegrating after Osei Tutu's death. Whilst the Asante were still fighting the Akyems, Sefwi seized the opportunity of Osei Tutu's death, to attack Kumasi, killed Nyarko Kusi Amoa, Opoku Ware's mother who was then the Asantehemaa. Bantamahene, Amankwatia was sent to sefwi and he defeated them at the Tano River and executed their ruler Abirimuru. The Ankobea stool was then created by Opoku Ware to protected Kumasi and the king's treasury during war (Ankobea means doesn't go anywhere).

In 1723 Opoku Ware led-Asante Army defeated the Bono and Dagomba Kingdoms burning the latter capital Yendi. The British consul at Kumasi in 1827, M. J. Dupuis, records in his “Journal a Residence in Ashantee” that the Dagomba capital Yendi and other large towns of the country paid to Ashantee an annual tribute of 500 slaves, 200 cows, 400 sheep and cloths and that smaller towns are taxed in proportion. In 1732, Dr Claridge named Opoku Ware as the Conqueror of Dagomba in his “History of the Gold Coast and Ashanti”. Moreover Gbunja, a Muslim Chronicler recorded in February 1745 that “the Cursed Unbeliever, Opoku Ware entered the town of Yendi and Plundered it”. All these enlisted the defeat of Dagomba by King Opoku Ware which is been disputed by Dagbon state.

In 1730, when the Akyems decided to attack Akwamu, they sent messengers to Opoku Ware promising him 500 slaves if he would assure them that Asante would not invade Akyem in their absence. The Asantehene agreed to the Akyems request but allowed them only five months to finish the war. Akwamu was always considered by Asante as their allies. However, Akwamus were greatly responsible for Asante defeat during the Asante-Akyem war in 1717. The Akwamuhene suggested to Osei Tutu that a section of the Asante army should pass through Akwamu to attack the Akyems where they would least expect it. Akwamu then had the Akyems informed of the line the Asante must take which resulted in Asante's defeat. Therefore Asante had wished for humiliation of Akwamus but not complete break-up of Akwamu's power. It was for this reason that Opoku Ware threatened the Fantes in 1730 when he realized they had aided the Akyems in the killing of Akwamuhene Ansa Kwoa (1725-1730).

In 1732, King Opoku Ware invaded Gonja destroying their capital. A year later, the Danes noted that they were paying the monthly ground rent to Okyenhene Ba Kwante. They also reported in that same year that the Akwamus in their new homeland after their defeat by Akyems were boasting that Opoku Ware would soon give them Accra as a present after the Asante had defeated Akyem. Their boatful weren't far from right. In early mouth of 1742, Opoku Ware Katakyie invaded Akyem Abuakwa and Kotoku, their kings Ba Kwante and Apau respectively together with Otublohum Manste were all slain including the heir-apparent to the Abuakwa stool Akyem Owusu and Darko. Gold death mask of Ba Kwante was made and then added to the insignias on the Golden Stool of Asante. With the consent of Opoku Ware, Pobi Asomaning succeeded Ba Kwante as Okyenhene and Buroni became the new Kotokuhene. *source: The Rise and Fall of a West African Empire: Akwamu (1650-1750)*

Some messengers from the Asantehene reached Accra soon after the war to inform the European merchants and the coastal people from Accra to the Volta to pay ground rents and indemnities to Opoku Ware for allowing Okyenhene's brother Darko to join his people the Akyems to fight the Asantes. The Danish Governor Dorph Roemer made reference to the same event and wrote that “We Danes were troubled with about 20,000 Assiante men, when an Ursue Afrie (Owusu Afriyie) commanded and who plagued us until he got a considerable amount of goods from us”. The Governor gave account of this meeting with the Asante army on the 25th April 1742.

That is after the 32 years reign of Katakyie Opoku Ware, Asante conquered and annexed, Bono, Banda, Gyaaman, Gonja and Dagomba, all in the north.

KUFOUR ADMITS TO CORRUPTION IN HIS GOVERNMENT AND SAYS HE WONT EXPOSE IT Unlike President Mahama who has taken action on allegations of corruption ,the NPP government under Kufour refused to either expose or punish corruption. At a 2003 NPP delegates conference held in Cape Coast, President Kufour in his address made excuses for corruption in his government. Among other justifications he said corruption "was as old as Adam" and that on a daily basis he and his officials are tempted with all manner of things including the proverbial apple of the Garden of Eden. He admitted that people come with all manner of inducements but he only tells them to go and come next time. He also stated that he was not going to expose corruption in his government lest his government collapses and what he did when instances of corruption came to his notice was to call the offending Minister or appointee and caution him not to repeat the corrupt act.

2. ESSEKU GATE In 2005, then National Chairman of the NPP, Mr Haruna Esseku was caught on tape telling NPP supporters that President Kufour was the chief recipient of kickbacks from contractors at the castle. He lamented that unlike in the past when he could go to the castle and have his car boot stashed with kickback funds, President Kufour was at the time withholding those funds and this affected his ability to provide resources for the running of the NPP. For this revelation Mr Esseku was held hostage and prevented from attending the NPP delegates conference at Legon that year.

3. HOTEL WAAWAA In the first term of President Kufour and his NPP government, Gizzelle Yadzi revealed that she had been asked by Kufour to negotiate the purchase of an US $ 8 million Hotel for him. Of course later we were told that it was Chief Kufour and not President Kufour who bought the hotel. Chief Kufour had no business track record prior to his father becoming President and had also not demonstrated any capacity to raise US $ 8 million dollars to buy such a hotel.

4. LOOTING OF STATE LANDS The looting and sharing of state lands is still fresh on our minds. A recount of the sale of government bungalows and public lands to Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, President Kufour, Kwodwo Mpiani and other NPP Ministers and cronies points to evidence of corruption. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey bought his official bungalow which sat on over an Acre of prime Land at Ridge for a paltry GHC 390, 000 when the property is valued at USD 2,000,000. Documents available from the lands commission show clearly that from President Kufour, his Ministers, party functionaries and cronies all bought state lands at ridiculously low prices. The former international students hostel land was carved out and shared among more NPP Ministers, party functionaries, and cronies.

5. DIVERSION OF 6O BILLION CEDIS OF TAX PAYERS MONEY TO FUND NPP PROPAGANDA MACHINE A 2009 audit report revealed that up to 60 billion cedis of the tax payer's money taken from the TOR debt recovery levy, the HIPC etc. was used fund a so called communication strategy which was only a euphemism for a conduit used to siphon state funds into the NPP campaign. The auditors could not find details of this strategy or how it was executed except dubious payments to shady groups such as BLOW, PRIM, and FIRST RESPONDERS. Most of the people who make the loudest noise about corruption these days (Anthony Karbo, John Boadu and Samuel Abu Jinapor) are on a list submitted to National Security under the NPP for these payments to be made. This looting of the TOR coffers contributed in no small measure towards the difficulties it currently faces.

6. E.O GROUP SHARES IN JUBILEE FIELD While 25 million Ghanaians had to make do with only 13.6% stake in the Jubilee field. Two NPP top shots, George Owusu and Ambassador Edusei were given 3% shares which amounts to a colossal US$300 million. It is instructive to note that in one of the Wikileaks cables President Kufour was quoted as having told a US senator that his interests in Ghana's oil are being coordinated by Mr Kwabena Darko of Darko Farms. When investigations were carried out into the EO group's affairs by Ghanaian authorities, it emerged that their company address was the same as the address of Darko Farms! The explanations given for how EO group came to own such a significant stake in the Jubilee field do not wash. We are told that they found Kosmos and brought them in to discover oil for Ghana. It is strange that GNPC which was formed in 1983 and which has all the expertise one can think of in the oil industry could not find a partner to discover oil but it took a two-man company with no experience or track record in the oil industry to find a partner for us. Even stranger is the fact that the EO group was allowed to be part of the joint operating agreement signed among the partners in the jubilee field when they did not meet the basic requirements to be part of such a venture. First they have no track record of having being part of such a venture in the past neither did they possess the financial capacity to make good their part of the cash calls which are necessary for the operation of the jubilee field. As it turned out they were carried by Kosmos and seeing as Kosmos is no father Christmas, the conclusion that can be drawn is that the EO group shares was made a conditionality for giving Kosmos the exploration license. We recall that Franklyn Cudjoe and his so-called think tank were loud in their defence of this unconscionable action when public outcry greeted the exposure of this deal.

7. DAN BOTWE QUESTIONS SOURCE OF FUNDS FOR LAVISH NPP FLAGBEARERSHIP CONTEST In 2007 Mr. Dan Botwe, former General secretary of the NPP and Former Information Minister expressed worry about the ostentatious nature of the campaigns that were being waged by seventeen aspirants who contested for the 2007 flag bearer slot of the NPP. In an interview with Citi FM in 2007, he lamented how the NPP in opposition could not afford to purchase even flags and T shirts and yet in power it was possible for 17 people to spend so much money on a flag bearer race. Some aspirants could even afford to charter aircrafts for campaign tours and hire aircrafts to fly their banners in the air. Hackman Owusu Agyeman himself an aspirant in that contest also bitterly complained about the extravagance that was displayed in that campaign. Where did the NPP get all that money from if not through corrupt kickback collection?

8. GHANA @ 50 After spending a whopping US$ 75 million dollars on Ghana's 50th birthday celebration, it emerged that Dr Wireko Brobey, Chief executive of the Ghana @50 secretariat made cash payments to supposed contractors and service providers in polythene bags without any supporting documentation.

9. AMOATENG HEROIN SCANDAL NPP MP for Nkoranza North was arrested in the United States of America for trafficking large quantities of heroin and is currently languishing in in jail in the US. Amoateng was a key NPP financier and received his party's full support in the wake of his arrest.

10. SEKYI HUGHES LOOTS HIS BUNGALOW Former speaker of Parliament under the NPP Ebenezer Begyina Sekyi Hughes when leaving his official bungalow looted it empty. He carried along all the curtains, furniture and fixtures in the house. Some media reports had it that Mr Sekyi Hughes even took away flower pots.

When at all will Bawumia say something sensible? All these sound bites please only NPP supporters. What Bawumia must understand is that just saying things like this and listing what he claims are hardships Ghanaians are suffering without offering suggestions or telling us what he would do to ameliorate those hardships will take him nowhere. The floating voter must be convinced beyond all reasonable doubt to give him their votes. So if Bawumia continues with the sound bites of hardships without offering cogent solutions few floating voters will give him their votes. For example he recently announced that if the NPP wins power, they will restore allowances to trainee teachers and scrap the loan system. He must also tell us how they will finance this without cutting down on the student population. He has been at the bank of Ghana before and knows how budgets are made. Where will the extra money come from to fund the allowances? Without these details, the floating voter will not vote for them. So Bawumia, enough of the noise, make alternative proposals supported with information on where the money is going to come from and then we will play ball.
