Mahama, who has by default, or virtue of the cheap votes of millions of the most ignorant sections of the Ghanaian society, does not even know what it means to be an ally in the realm of international relations.

The President of Ghana, quite shockingly, does not even know the official foreign policy position of the Republic of Ghana, the country he is seriously damaging without any remorse, let or hindrance.

Obviously, President Mahama thinks that he can hide in some room and willy-nilly dream up some nonsense and come out with it as the foreign policy of the country in the same way that he alone, probably in the comfort of his toilet, decided to transform the entire Republic of Ghana into an extension of the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp.

What annoys me most about all this is that, our flat-footed journalists do not make enough conscientious effort to interrogate some of these gargantuan blunders of the President. Mahama, in one of his conflicting statements to excuse himself and defend his folly, openly stated that he was obliged to extend a helping hand to the Americans in their moment of difficulty because, "since last year they have been our allies". Our journalists should catch the President and make him explain what exactly he means by, "since last year they have been our allies".

Has our foreign policy position shifted or have the Americans included Ghana in their 'most favoured nations' status? Our journalists should also go and interview the American Ambassador to find out if Ghana is truly and indeed their ally and when this arrangement transpired - as well as the substance of that arrangement - if it is true.

The lackadaisical attitude of we the public, towards the way we are governed, has given way to the string of incompetent pretenders who have held sway over our lives since 1966.

But I must say that I also agree with Mr. Gyan.
Why?
Because in today's high-stakes game of international politics, saying you are an ALLY of the West in general, and the United States in particular, can mark you as a serious target for terrorism.

Therefore, I also believe that the President meant FRIEND when he said ALLY.

"ALLY" has been applied throughout history to refer to a supporter in dispute or a co-combatant in war.

Therefore, our leaders, who, based on the manner in which they make decisions, seem to be oblivious of the risky dynamics of today's hyper-sensitive world, need to be sharp.
They must choose their words carefully.

US, UK, France, Germany, Israel, South Korea, Japan and Australia are ALLIES against radical Islam and a perceived Russian threat.

We Ghanaians love all these countries, but we prefer not be described as their ALLIES, because we do not want the Caliphate and the Qaeda and their clones - Boko Haram, AQIM, AQIP, Al Shabab - to target us.

They may attack us nonetheless, but bragging a weak, poor, corrupt country as an ALLY heightens the risk.

Slightly embarrassed and with a quick smile to the bus driver, she reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little, thinking that this would give her enough slack to raise her leg. She tried to again take the step, only to discover that she couldn’t. So, a little more embarrassed, she once again reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little more, and for the second time attempted the step. Once again, much to her embarrassment she could not raise her leg. With a little smile to the driver, she again reached behind to unzip a little more and again was unable to take the step. About this time, a large guy who was standing behind her picked her up easily by the waist and placed her gently on the step of the bus. The went ballistic and turned to the would-be Samaritan and screeched, "How dare you touch my body! I don’t even know who you are!" The guy smiled and drawled, "Well, ma’am, normally I would agree with you, but after you unzipped my fly three times, I kind’a figured we were friends."

It is a fact that the American do not see us as allies in the sense of military usage of the world. Mahama had taken it lightly in the use of the world thus I can understand the expert's point of view and the correction needed in that context.

Now if at this point the NPP believes the U S A is not our enemies but friends, the question of the U S approaching Ghana with the GITMO GUYS issue what would have been the respond from Ghana if the NPP is in power.

In my opinion I believe Akuffo Addo or Kufour would have pleased the USA faster than any government in Ghana on this GITMO GUYS issue that the NPP is making a lot of unnecessary noises foolishly and selfishly for political gains among the village minded folks of the Ashanti region.

He had the opportunity to prove to the people in Ghana who thought that people from the north were only good to be watchmen, truck pushers, kayayei and night soil carriers that people from the north are equally good for any job in Ghana. But look at SADA and the mess that has been caused by the board and management of SADA. All members of the board were northerners. Surprisingly, Roland Agambire also a northerner took a greater portion of the GH200million for SADA and he has not delivered anything. The same Roland Agambire took money under GYEEDA scandal and did not deliver. The John Mahama government contains about 70% of northerners and the performance of this NDC government is the worst in the history of Ghana. It has been full of corruption, stealing, lying, incompetence, mismanagement, misappropriation of funds etc etc. John Mahama's love for dubious money has caused the poor performance of his government.

In US state department circles (where I have some inside info) Ghana is considered by the U.S. as a beggar nation with feckless, clueless leaders who can be effectively manipulated to achieve whatever U.S. foreign policy objectives desire. For you clueless Ghanaian government officials here's what you need to know: strong nations don't have friends, they have common interests, which are expressed and negotiated at arms length with equally strong nations they respect. "Friendship" has no place in realpolitik. If a particular "ally" interest does not line up with your own country's interest, you dispense with them.(note, sanctions against Cuba,(missile crises) Iran,(kidnapping U.S. embassy officials and disrupting Middle East peace initiatives) Russia (Crimea invasion and other related issues) African countries, generally speaking, are so weak, institutionally inept, socially chaotic, lack rudimentary technical savvy, are powerless, with their leadership displaying embarrassing ignorance of the most basic global issues, their impact and how to contribute to the debate on solving those issues that most Western, and to a lesser degree Eastern and Middle Eastern leaders think very little of them. Africa is a dumping ground for shoddy and dangerous Chinese goods; it is repository of western e-waste, it is a source of minerals that are extracted cheaply by developed countries because they have no bargaining power; it's citizens are guinea pigs and used as testing subjects for new medications and experimentation in all sorts of things; its relatively wealthy citizens pour their wealth as deposits into foreign banks, which is then turned around and used as loans to its financially strapped governments at higher interest rates than the banks pay to the depositors; they buy houses in London, NYC, Washington, Dubai, and invest looted public funds in foreign business with compradors from the West. The banks can even use monies deposited by their kleptocratic leaders to finance regime change so the deposed (or killed) leader, or his surviving family or estate is unable to claim the deposited funds. The US and Ghana conduct joint military exercises, have a bilateral International Military Education and Training program, a Foreign Military Financing program, and numerous humanitarian affairs projects, including a relationship between the government of Ghana and the North Dakota National Guard under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Defense State Partnership Program. Ghana continues to participate in the African Contingency Operations Training and Assistance program, in which the United States facilitates the development of an interoperable peacekeeping capacity among African nations. Ghana is a partner country for the African Peacekeeping Rapid Response Partnership and the Security Governance Initiative. These programs seek to address security sector governance challenges in Ghana and enhance Ghana’s ability to rapidly deploy peacekeepers. Ghana is also a priority country under the West Africa Cooperative Security Initiative (WACSI).

So yes it is safe to say the US considers Ghana and ally.
