Go to Tema you more than half of goods arrived there and Takoradi goes Oseikrom unlike our cousinsin in the Volta who to Togo and send children and women to bring them in small groups and invade any duties all they have to do is speak the language and cross the border yet still they in uncompleted building of the Ashantis and wooden structures

What am I talking about the devaluation, if a product is sold at Gh¢8.00 and today taxes impose on petroleum products and other services like electricity and water which are essential services are shoot up to say Gh¢12.00 means our currency is being devalued because this time you pay more for the same products we have been patronizing at the former prices. Here, there is something called social security number, the IRS have them and randomly track tax evaders by the Tax Identification number or by the Social Security number. The realization that the IRS may come after someone and make that someone's life a living hell, make people rush to pay their taxes.

Ghana does not have the database and means to track evaders. If Ghana had created such database and identifications, it would have been easier even with the Voter ID issues.

Ghana has problems to solve but until Ghana gets to solve the basic problem of Identification, it will be just talking and complaining every day!

In addition, to meet conditions set down by our creditors, Ghana has been doubling and tripling tariff rates on fuel, water, electricity and telephone service. These increases are imposed without any conversation by the leadership of Ghana. It will be helpful to the Mahama administration if the expenditures of the proceeds of these loans were not so opaque. When Mahama recently chided parliament for sleeping through the process of appropriations and 'ways and means', he was right. One gets the impression that large amounts of the borrowed money just disappears into the pockets of political and civil service operatives. An open audit is often lacking.

This government inherited a country that had very little debt and an economy that was growing at a an enviable rate. It was also poised to add oil exports to its traditional and existing non traditional exports. What happened next? The government used a vicious three-pronged approach to bring this nation to its knees. First there was wanton and unbridled looting by government appointees in the form of contract manipulation, creation of non existing judgement debts, GYEEDA, SUBAH, YES, YEA, LESDEP etc,etc,etc., next on their list was extremely reckless borrowing to add to the booty. When they were cautioned against the excessive borrowing, we were told they were borrowing because we had the capacity to do so and they would continue to borrow as long as we continued to have the capacity to do so, we were also reminded that they were not borrowing to chew 'chinchinga'. The result of this excessive borrowing, when the borrowed funds were not applied to directly stimulating the economy, is the interest payments that we are now forced to resort to additional borrowing to meet. The final weapon in the arsenal was the collapse of income generating activities in this country. Three continuous years of dumsor, collapse of the cocoa industry as well as farming in general. Did the government not know, when it embarked on this self destructive exercise, that taxes can only be collected on incomes and profits?

A man who has no property or sold all his property like Ghana will have to borrow to exist. The state does not own means of production and distribution, thus it rely on taxes from the citizen. When the citizen does not pay tax the state will not have money to carry on development projects. There is also a fact that even the mighty U.S. has been borrowing from China. Is it also a case that the U.S. and her European partners who all borrow from China are corrupt, because we are been make to believe that it is only corrupt governments that borrow money for development projects. The United Nations said that every nation must own 51% of her natural resources. Ghana owns 13% of her crude oil resources and 5% of her gold. There are people who are of the view that the state should not gain anything from cocoa. So the logic of those who always accuse others of stealing is that anyone who borrows from the bank is a thief. Let us put and end to this absurdity.

If Collins want to correct anything that he has heard from a Radio Station, he is free to do so. He could also encourage others to double-check anything they hear on the Radio because not everything that comes off the Radio or Television is a gospel truth. That is how information should be allowed to flow in any Democratic Nation.

The days when the Dictators clamped down on FM Radio Stations and arrested innocent Students on Campuses venturing into Broadcasting on Campus are over.

We are in a different era. If Collins is not awake, he should be to the fact that nothing can stop the Internet from expanding opportunities for folks to share information. So long as the Internet exists, Radio Stations would exist and grow accordingly. If Collins and his clique try to shut any Radio Station down, many more would spring up off the Internet to replace it. I don't think he realizes that many Radio Stations, today, do not have huge physical edifices where some roguish Soldiers could simply go to manhandle the journalists there and shut the place up. It does not take much for someone to effectively broadcast from his or her bedroom, even.

I am afraid, by those remarks, Collins Dauda has exposed his proclivity to dictatorship, and censoring of information.

Ghana deserves better than that.

Taxes are taken from earnings of people and i find it bizarre how this speakers of this government and some shallow commentators expect people to pay tax when they don't even have a job.
Most of private Ghanaian entrepreneurs are taxed heavily on their import goods at the port and what happens to the revenue generated from such unfair import duty taxes?
Since the realisation of the government's failures and loots from the nation's coffers,they have resorted to what they know what to do best and that's to shift blame in order to divert attention.
They have wasted and mismanaged the country's resources to enrich themselves and now the poor innocent Ghanaians who are easy targets are being blamed stupidly with malicious excuse.
Let me put it on record to quash the wicked claim by these heartless,uncaring,shameless and deceitful spokespersons of the vile government in history of Ghanaian politics that every person in Ghana who deserve to pay tax does so accordingly.

I had personally been to 3 of the Branches to Pay Income Taxes on behalf of Clients or File a Paper,at North Kaneshie,Osu,and Adabraka,etc.
Building & Road Contractors have to Submit Audited Accounts,and Prove of
Corporate Taxes Fully Paid to date, before an Entity could Bid for a Gov't Contract.No one would entertained you without the above mentioned 2 things among others,no matter what.
If you Satisfied the Conditions to win the Contract,any level of work Executed and Certified or approved for Certificate or Payment;The Ministry of Finance Deducted 2.5 percent of total Amount at Source as Prepaid Tax (Corporate)till the last Certificate,until your Accountants and Auditors prepared the Final Accounts for the year under review to Paid the difference Accrued Due,if any,or in Excess of Payment based on the Profitability or otherwise for the year,your Account with the IRS is Credited.Again,all Establishment employing a minimum of 5 people and above,by Law,is required to Deduct Social Security(SSF)and Income Tax and paid to IRS on behalf of Govt. not later than the 15th of the Month following.Only Farmers do not pay Tax on their Produce by Law.Later,the Tax Net was Spread to Cover Small Scale, One-Person or Road Side, Houses & Corners Businesses Operators like eg Hairdresser,Tailors,
Trader, Commercial Vehicle Operators, Stores, etc,etc.These Categories of Businesses,Pay a Secified Amount Required by the IRS,aside from District

Ghana also has Gift Tax,and Individual TaxReturns(that means you File your Tax with IRS to Claim Overpayments,if any the end of the year). Property Tax,
Daily or Weekly Market Tolls,etc goes to the District Council. Whoever said Ghanaians do not pay Tax,please tell the One ; I Said He/She is a Big Liar. Tell Collins Dauda,people paid Taxes when he was a School Boy,or before he was Born.An embarrassment of a Minister.Useless!.
