I said this in 2009, that increased rates imposed by the government was an incentive for illegal transactions. Before then, I was paying 6 cents per minute for a call from the US to Ghana (per USC 2000). The NDC government raised this to 25 cents per minute, hoping to make more money. I argued that the lower the calling rates the more calls people would make and the more money the government would make. As an example, my average call bill to Ghana was $250 per month when I was paying 6 cents/minute. I was on the phone all weekend because in my mind, the rate was cheap. After the raise, my bill dropped to $10 or less per month. I only make calls in extreme emergency. When will these NDC butchers and tailors listen to commonsense economics.

You can go to Makola and steal food because the price has gone high and you will see what will happen to you. The state is not running any telecommunication company now, what she does is only to collect tax from them. Labourers and kayayoos pay tax everyday it looks like you are telling Ghanaians that they are slaves in thrall of foreigners who set up companies here and make profit. Labourers as wage slaves should pay tax but big companies that make profit should not pay tax. This article should be given the title of the most absurd article in Ghana this year.
