If you as an "Akan" hate Muslims, don't drag Akans in general into this unfortunate development.Some of us whose great grand parents came to settle in the Ashanti Kingdom more than a century ago have respected and continue to respect the traditional authorities in area.Certainly, the haphazard physical development in Kumasi should be a concern to all residents.Building a wall to ward off encroachers at the Tafo Cemetary should have been applauded by the Chief and even if he had a concern there were opportunities he could have used to challenge the action of the Muslim youth rather than leading thugs to breakdown the wall without recourse to the KMA if he was doing the right thing. Islam is for peace and the Chief Imam is in Kumasi just for that!Think well for Asanteman insight to the bone.

You can't put walls around a cemetery that you didn't bring on the journey from your homeland, period. They can only do so with the approval of the chief and the people who own the land. Their claim of having documents is bogus. As a member of the Bantama Royal family, I can categorically state that, it was a big offense in Ashanti for any chief to sell land to any foreigner in the 40's. Any chief that sold land at that time would be destooled immediately. Even missionaries from abroad who established in Ashanti were not sold any land but with a few bottles of gin, a goat or sheep and a bowl of kolanut, they were given land to stay up to the maximum of 100 years on paper, 99 years to be precise. We Ashantis are facing all this because we were forced into Ghana as a Republic in the 1960s, and that has somehow nullified some of our traditional contracts negotiated with some foreigners some decades ago.

If there is one thing that JJ deserves credit for, is the fact that our muslims brothers and sisters were finally welcome at the decision-akng table. In the past, muslims were not part of our deliberations. They were marginalised. During the days of Rawlings, muslims became part and parcel of everything we do as a state. Rawlings became known as a "Zongo boy", whatever that means.

Despite the flare ups once in a while, we have enjoyed relative peace on the religious front in the sub-region.

This goodwill we're enjoying is due to the foundations laid in the earlier days of Rawlings. We need to continue building on that, especially in these perilous day that some bad people have hijack slam and using it for terrorism.
