The commission's independence is actually being used as an excuse for doing exactly what the framers of the constitution wanted to prevent.

The framers were aware that government of the day could abuse its incumbency to interfere in electoral matters to make it easier for it to rig elections. As a result, they made the EC independent in order to prevent the government from doing so.

What is happening in Ghana today is the opposite. The government is intimately in bed with the EC and the so-called "independence" is being used against all the other stakeholders in favour of the incumbent. What a shame!Do we need another 100 years to rule ourselves?

The independence of the EC does not mean unconstitutional and haphazard. The EC is guided by the constitution of the land. The EC itself is a committee. Where in our constitution is the EC empowered to form a completely separate commi9ttee to undertake the main duties of the commission? We may as well dissolve the EC. Then at the whim of the president, someone could be appointed at any time to organise his/her own commission to undertake the du8ties of the EC, as Charlotte is trying to do now!
The whole idea is unconstitutional and illegal, and Charlotte must be stopped now. In fact she has shown that she is incapable to handle the affairs of the commission she has been catapulted into. She thinks her task is to form committees on the whim. She formed that bogus committee to hold that useless forum. Then like the case of the many other committees that have been springing up every so often, the recommendations of the committee have been put away safe in the bank vault!
This fugitive came out boldly to claim that she had picked 200,000 illegal registrations on the voter list in the Ashanti Region, with no regard to the precarious nature of the situation such an announcement could create. Within a couple of days, her own deputy came out to say she had lied, before she also came out to sidestep the issue with some bogus explanation. She forgot that the position she occupies does not allow for such unguarded statements. If she was to make such a dubious announcement on the 8th of November 2016, does she realise what that would generate?
Any way, are we to sit back and allow that to happen? It must be a big no! This woman will plunge the nation into chaos come November if she is allowed to go the way she is going. It is time to boot her out. The GT boys are still in the country. They can help us immensely. All we need is one bomb. This is the only time we need our Islamic youth to help the country. Next time our visitors come to the mosque, we pleas with our Islamic brothers to approach them for instructions for making a simple bomb. We would not mind if our Islamic guys would do their suicide thing around this misfit Charlotte Foreigner. She must not be allowed to get away freely after tampering with the peace of our country. She is an infidel and must be eliminated. Then our Islamic saviour would have nine virgins waiting for him on the other side of the divide!

Following claims that Dr Karl Mark Arhin is a National Democratic Congress (NDC) sympathiser, the Electoral Commission (EC) has decided to drop him from the November election steering committee it set up recently, Graphic Online understands.

Dr Arhin was appointed to the committee as a representative of the National Service Scheme (NSS) as part of the EC's plan to use National Service personnel as Election Officers.

The NSS is now set to appoint a replacement.

Pressure group Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) had on Tuesday called on the EC to dissolve the steering committee, which it said was NDC-biased.

"The EC has every right to set up a new committee to help deliver credible and peaceful elections. But, it defeats any well-meaning purpose when the composition is itself manifestly biased and the deliberation towards its composition and functions left out key stakeholders such as political parties and civil society groups.

"We, therefore, wish to urge the Commission to reverse the inauguration of the Steering Committee, go back to the drawing table with all key stakeholders and find consensus to, if need be, move this concept forward but in the right direction with the right people," LMVCA said in a statement.

talks about bread and butter issues the real issues about the suffering of the Ghanaian people and how to deliver on that, and not like the ndc who come to power to steal money so they can bribe to win the next election instead of dealing with economic issues that affect Ghanaians.
