As a government, you create a favourable environment for job creation by the private sector. No government in the world is ever able to create jobs on its own to grow the economy. That's the job of the private sectors. Now, when the people have jobs, the government can then resort to increase the income and import taxes as a means to further grow the economy. The people already have jobs by then, so the taxes won't affect their living conditions very much. That's how you run an economy. However, this NDC government is running the country based on the old Soviet communist model, since most of the leaders either went to colleges in Russia or still subscribe to the socialist form of government. They put the cart before the horse and jack up huge taxes on the people who don't even have jobs to feed their families. These high taxes further obliterate the few remaining companies operating in the country and forces them to close down, thus exacerbating the already huge unemployment situation in the country. Faced with dwindling income from low tax base to run the country as a result of its failed economic policies, the government resort to borrowing huge amount of money from foreign banks, putting the country back into the exclusive club of Highly Indebted Countries. The amount of loans contracted by the government is further put into dubious projects and used as a conduits to siphon the money into their own accounts and share them.
Folks, this is the kind of quagmire this country finds itself in at this time. It will be extremely hard to extricate ourselves from our situation without substantial efforts. Sadly, the people who are negatively affected most, don't even recognize the problem, and are willing to put these same vampires in government again. This same government which came to maime, kill and destroy the Ghana economy. CRY, MY BELOVED COUNTRY.
