Finally, its about time the government invested in technology that can pick out almost ALL the items in a container including contrabands such as weapons and installed them at the ports and their exits. The Israelis have very effective and efficient makes and models.People manning the equipment should include armed security personnel whose individual and group schedules should be arbitrary with adequate compensation.
There are serious indications about groups and/or individuals wanting to destabilize the country even now for whatever reason.
While there is no need to declare any State of Emergency now, there are so many ways to identify, isolate and deal with these potential nation-wreckers within the Constitution. The authorities should give the security agencies the policy and allow them to come out with their procedures etc.
As in any human endeavor, things may go wrong and if and when they do, responsible appointment holders should go back to the drawing board, analyze the issue and come out with a better idea. It's not for the President or any member of the government to criticize the security agencies in PUBLIC like Mahama did against the Police after the EC demonstration. This person has allegedly been smuggling Guns to Ghana and he has just been caught. It seems to me that the Ghanaian authorities must work with USA agencies to track where he took the smuggled arms on those occasions he got them through to Ghana. Who cleared his goods, who received the goods? Where did they take the goods? Does he have assets which can be deposed of, once he's found guilty, to compensate crime victims in Ghana? Ghanaian agencies must be involved in the interrogation. There must be collaboration to ensure that such criminals do not continue to harm Ghanaians from foreign countries where they are domiciled.
It is conceivable that some of the smuggled guns are in the hands of armed robbers. The smuggled guns carry serial numbers and Ghana authorities must work with American agencies to determine if any guns seized from criminals correspond to the guns this criminal smuggled into Ghana.
What a disgrace, what a pariah to Ghanaian folk. What an irritant?
