The problem of school children sitting on bare floor in classrooms especially in the northern part of the country is far from over.
After the Kperisi Basic School exposé which generated a lot of controversy in the country, it turned out that more schools are facing a similar problem.
One of such is the Al-suaredeen Islamic Basic School at Gulabani in Tamale South constituency of the Northern region.
The children according to Adom News’ Iliasu Abdul Dabre lie flat on the dirty bare floor to write because they are without furniture.
He said the pupils many of whom walk from long distances to school have to grapple for space on the floor due to the overcrowded nature of the classroom.
Iliasu who expressed dismay the first time he visited the school added that, the teacher cannot walk through the class to supervise class exercise.
I was extremely shocked when I saw the children lying on the bare floor” he stated while describing the situation on Adom Evening News Wednesday.
However attempts to get the headmaster of the school to comment on the issue proved futile. He told our reporter he has been asked by the Municipal Education Directorate not the comment on the matter.
Some of the teachers who spoke to Iliasu on condition of anonymity express worrying at the situation which they said is affecting teaching and learning.
They added that the lack of desks in the classroom has made most of the pupils truants – a situation they noted could affect the future of the kids.
But the Municipal Chief Executive of Tamale, Alhaji Abdul Hanan Gundadoo in an interview with Adom News, said the condition at Al-suaredeen has not been brought to his attention.
But he said if the school is approved by the Ghana Education Service (GES), desks will be dispatched to the school.
“We have about 500 units of desks available for distribution so if it [Al-suaredeen] a GES approved school, they will get some of the tables and chairs” he stated.
Alhaji Gundadoo said government is still committed to improving the educational sector.
Meanwhile, a promise by the Member of Parliament for the area, Haruna Iddrisu to provide desks for the school is yet to materialise

Most Northners build mansions at the South, put businesses at the South. How do you expect the North to develop? Some educated MPs from the North hardly visit there to acquaint themselves with what is going on there. They go there when it is election time and they want to be voted for.
Northners who are put in positions to help develop the North end up Squandering it. How do you bridge the gap. Let us be truthful to ourselves.
Chieftaincy disputes at the North turns violent and so much destruction is done. Something very little can spark ethnic war.I can talk about Bawku,Yendi, Kokomba/Nanumba and many more. The South have similar problems but they do not turn that violent. How much money and time is spent on keeping the peace at the North. People who are posted to the North always look for opportunities to move South. I am one of such people who moved South. There should be intensive education among Northners about the effects of wars in their communities.
Is Mahama aware that students still study under trees and they usually don't have school supplies? How do you bridge the gap when students still go to school and study on the bare floor. Mahama, you can make those promises but you are playing politics or dreaming.

Throw all the money in there as if the dryness of the north was caused by the wickedness of the south and therefore they now deserve compensation to the detriment of everyone else. Why is he going to build airports there, to transport cattle? To make the cattle there see a plane? Why not talk about building better north - south road? The problem of school children sitting on bare floor in classrooms especially in the northern part of the country is far from over.
After the Kperisi Basic School exposé which generated a lot of controversy in the country, it turned out that more schools are facing a similar problem.
One of such is the Al-suaredeen Islamic Basic School at Gulabani in Tamale South constituency of the Northern region.
The children according to Adom News’ Iliasu Abdul Dabre lie flat on the dirty bare floor to write because they are without furniture.
He said the pupils many of whom walk from long distances to school have to grapple for space on the floor due to the overcrowded nature of the classroom.
Iliasu who expressed dismay the first time he visited the school added that, the teacher cannot walk through the class to supervise class exercise.
I was extremely shocked when I saw the children lying on the bare floor” he stated while describing the situation on Adom Evening News Wednesday.
However attempts to get the headmaster of the school to comment on the issue proved futile. He told our reporter he has been asked by the Municipal Education Directorate not the comment on the matter.
Some of the teachers who spoke to Iliasu on condition of anonymity express worrying at the situation which they said is affecting teaching and learning.
They added that the lack of desks in the classroom has made most of the pupils truants – a situation they noted could affect the future of the kids.
But the Municipal Chief Executive of Tamale, Alhaji Abdul Hanan Gundadoo in an interview with Adom News, said the condition at Al-suaredeen has not been brought to his attention.
But he said if the school is approved by the Ghana Education Service (GES), desks will be dispatched to the school.
“We have about 500 units of desks available for distribution so if it [Al-suaredeen] a GES approved school, they will get some of the tables and chairs” he stated.
Alhaji Gundadoo said government is still committed to improving the educational sector.
Meanwhile, a promise by the Member of Parliament for the area, Haruna Iddrisu to provide desks for the school is yet to materialise

How long has the PNDC/NDC rule Ghana? Where are we after all those years? We northerners are far behind because of our own attitudes, During Jj Rawlings time his cabinet was full of northern MPs yet they failed woefully to break the south North gab. Let's Take a typical example Bole-Bamboi road was in a bad state for years under the Ndc regime. But when the NPP government took office in 2001 they were able to connect it from tarred road opening the upper west region for development. Is a shame that our northern leaders are doing less to provide jobs for the youth to prevent going to South for non-existing jobs especially our girls going for kayayi and the boys ending up in Cocoa farms. Northern Ghana is not poor as perceived we have great potential in agriculture if given the necessary infrastructure and support from government. Let's stop crying we northerners are poor and move forward. We have massive lands for commercial and mechanised agribusiness. Until our greedy northern political leaders get things right we will continue to wallow in object poverty. Over 30 years of PNDC-NDC in power we haven't seen the real development aiming at reducing or closing the gap between the north and south. If Mahama is serious of what he is saying Bole-Bamboi road deserve asphalt and not third class road. In few years Bole-Bamboi will be in another state of despair.

It is about time Ghanaians living in the north erase that stupid mindset of "underdeveloped north" and think. How long have they have "free education" and what have they done with that free opportunity? They have produced "two presidents" so, what are they crying about? I don't get.

Development is synonymous with peace sane minds will love to live in a peaceful area or environment. Now, is there peace in the North? How many times had the various governments sent security forces to quell disturbances and at what cost?

The North should not expect the government to spend our scares resources to put sanity in that area while at the same time trying to develop the area.

Think like this; imagine the south had or has the same blood-thirsty mindset like the North, will we even have a country that is peaceful?

You cannot eat your cake and have back so, it is about time we tell our brothers and sisters in the north, to stop being silly and reason like peace loving Ghanaians. With that, development will come from the "blue sky".

In a country like Ghana with very greedy and divisive politicians, you cannot expect governments to bridge the gap between the north and south. I'm from the south and I can tell you boldly that apart from Accra, most of the structures you see were put up by private individuals. No matter where an Akan will make his money, he will by all means bring something home. The same cannot be said about people from the north. There are so many politicians, lawyers doctors and business men of northern descent who have acquired so much wealth but will never go back home to help their people. Come to Kumasi Allabar and see the real business. It is a business hub but you can't even find such markets even in Tamale. How about that? Some northerners do not even want to be associated with their kinsmen. Even the Asantes appear to love them more than they love themselves. What we usually forget is that development starts from the mindset. If you don't have the right mindset, you will fall behind. The same applies to the whites and we black people.

Mahama must drill all the oil in the Western Region and sell all the cocoa and timber and gold of the south to bridge up the gap Mahama sees with the north - until the north looks as humid and tropical as the south. After that Mahama can then turn his attention to the Western Region and the rest of the south and make it as less dry as the now humid north. Throw all the money in there as if the dryness of the north is the result of the unfairness of the south and therefore the north now needs to be compensated at all cost to the deprivation of everyone else. Why is he going to build airports there, to transport cattle? To make a cattle see planes? Why not talk about building north south roads? What is Western Region receiving for all its oil, for fairness sake? Is it to wait until the north has been gorged? Surely, this is vintage Mahama, unleashing his heady promises, all that he has already squandered on the North notwithstanding, not with even guinea fowls to show. He needs to win by all means in order to better protect the family loot and acquire more with the likes of Asiedu Nketsia, the vexatious mosquito man - frantic looters that they are. Won't JJ also benefit from the protection? He created the indemnity clause for a reason: he set the pace.

I am talking about the Volta Region, where almost all the intellectuals from the Volta Region are transferred to Kwame Nkrumah Technology University. I want ask the President, Why he cannot put up Development Projects in the Volta region? I was surprised to see so many schools in the Volta Region are operating under threes? Why is it that he cannot let the Education Minister provide adequate funding equally to all the Regions so that new School Buildings are built for school children? Or, did the Regional Ministers/Administrators stole the school funding for their personal use? If so, do not fire them but arrest them and if found guilty then put them in jail for extended period of time. Today is March 6, 2016, 59th anniversary. We are celebrating this special occasion because We Are No Longer Under British Rule. That alone is a Victory for Ghana and Africa. But, are we managing our country as it is supposed to be? The present Government Ministers, including those advising the President must contribute toward National Development but not only allow only one Region to take all the money to Develop their Region. I do not think that it is fair for the rest of the country. I would like to also see improvements in better Roads, improvements in Education, that means better Schools, better Hospitals in the country, improvement in Energy distribution, which are the preliminary to Development necessary for all nations. W care behind of South Korea in terms of National Development, Why? We are behind of Malaysia in terms of National Development, Why? Are we going to continue Development that includes all the citizens of Ghana or are we just going to continue creating only better opportunity for few Rich people in Ghana? I want to know.

It's going to take another 100 years again if possible to bridge the gap, that is when southerners agree fight over meat and any useless things. Almost half of the northerners are already here in the southern doing mere jobs like kayayo,toilet cleaners, chop bar punders, mortuary men, gatemen, farm labourers, nail cutters etc. I'm advising to widen the gap to accommodate them at Southern. They like apeteshie too much. Warn them to stop eating dead dogs and cats while residing at the southern. Let them also have permit to enable them to stay in southern Ghana, to enable the law enforcement to track them down in crime is committed.
