The problem of school children sitting on bare floor in classrooms especially in the northern part of the country is far from over.
After the Kperisi Basic School exposé which generated a lot of controversy in the country, it turned out that more schools are facing a similar problem.
One of such is the Al-suaredeen Islamic Basic School at Gulabani in Tamale South constituency of the Northern region.
The children according to Adom News’ Iliasu Abdul Dabre lie flat on the dirty bare floor to write because they are without furniture.
He said the pupils many of whom walk from long distances to school have to grapple for space on the floor due to the overcrowded nature of the classroom.
Iliasu who expressed dismay the first time he visited the school added that, the teacher cannot walk through the class to supervise class exercise.
I was extremely shocked when I saw the children lying on the bare floor” he stated while describing the situation on Adom Evening News Wednesday.
However attempts to get the headmaster of the school to comment on the issue proved futile. He told our reporter he has been asked by the Municipal Education Directorate not the comment on the matter.
Some of the teachers who spoke to Iliasu on condition of anonymity express worrying at the situation which they said is affecting teaching and learning.
They added that the lack of desks in the classroom has made most of the pupils truants – a situation they noted could affect the future of the kids.
But the Municipal Chief Executive of Tamale, Alhaji Abdul Hanan Gundadoo in an interview with Adom News, said the condition at Al-suaredeen has not been brought to his attention.
But he said if the school is approved by the Ghana Education Service (GES), desks will be dispatched to the school.
“We have about 500 units of desks available for distribution so if it [Al-suaredeen] a GES approved school, they will get some of the tables and chairs” he stated.
Alhaji Gundadoo said government is still committed to improving the educational sector.
Meanwhile, a promise by the Member of Parliament for the area, Haruna Iddrisu to provide desks for the school is yet to materialise

To him all that was important was to score cheap political points. Old canopies and dirty and haggard looking local chiefs were hurriedly put together for the cheap photo op.
Is that how excellent Ghana could package herself?

The NDC party should tell John Mahama to stop making a mockery of himself because it is getting annoying.
His party and gov't we know hates Pastor Mensah Otabil, but we would entreat him to go and listen to him on the analogy he made with "onions, soil and the environment" before he starts making such statements about stuff he knows nothing about.
Kofi Annan was at the UN for over 2 decades before he became the Secretary General of the UN. Of that 20 years he was at the UN, I am sure his party must have been running the country as a military jingoism. In not so many words, it is clear what I am driving at?
You don't claim excellence based off of the individual effort of the Ghanaian, his passion, his drive when that environment for excellence doesn't exist.
Abraham Attah says he's relocating out of the country. A huge number of Ghanaians every single blessed day are found at the various embassies of developed countries wanting to leave the country. he should ask himself why and go bak and listen to Pastor Mensah Otabil on the analogy using "onions, the soil and the environment". He would begin to get a clue.

MAHAMA, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT SPIRIT OF HUMILITY FOR LEADERSHIP, BUT YOU NEED TO STEP UP THE GAME..IF EXCELLENCE IS WHAT YOU WANT TO GHANA TO BE, YOU HAVE A GOOD LITTLE WAYS TO GO... STEP ON THE DEVELOPMENT ACCELERATOR PLEASE, WILL YOU?... THE THINGS THAT ARE NO BRAINERS IN THE REST OF THE WORLD THAT ARE STILL LACKING IN GHANA MUST BE YOUR FOCUS.... BETTER SANITATION, BETTER ROADS- NOW IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE WORKED ON WATER AND ELECTRICITY TO ABOUT 80% COVERAGE OF THE COUNTRY- FOR AFRICA, THAT IS EXCELLENT... YOU HAVE DONE WELL WITH SCHOOLS TOO, BUT THE CURRICULUM IS STILL POOR....
THERE SHOULD BE AGGRESSIVE FINES FOR THOSE WHO BREAK THE SANITATION LAWS- THE PROBLEM IS THE FINE COLLECTORS WILL POCKET THE MONEY? SO HOW SHOULD YOU CURB CORRUPTION? START CHOPPING OF THE FINGERS OF THOSE FOUND STEALING STATE MONEY? WHAT IS YOUR SOLUTION TO CORRUPTION IN THE GOVERNMENT, AT THE PORTS, AND SO ON?
IS THERE EVEN AN AUTOMATIC WALKWAY TO CONNECT TO PLANES AT KOTOKA? ABOMINATION...GHANA, STEP UP THE GAME..
