The problem of school children sitting on bare floor in classrooms especially in the northern part of the country is far from over.
After the Kperisi Basic School exposé which generated a lot of controversy in the country, it turned out that more schools are facing a similar problem.
One of such is the Al-suaredeen Islamic Basic School at Gulabani in Tamale South constituency of the Northern region.
The children according to Adom News’ Iliasu Abdul Dabre lie flat on the dirty bare floor to write because they are without furniture.
He said the pupils many of whom walk from long distances to school have to grapple for space on the floor due to the overcrowded nature of the classroom.
Iliasu who expressed dismay the first time he visited the school added that, the teacher cannot walk through the class to supervise class exercise.
I was extremely shocked when I saw the children lying on the bare floor” he stated while describing the situation on Adom Evening News Wednesday.
However attempts to get the headmaster of the school to comment on the issue proved futile. He told our reporter he has been asked by the Municipal Education Directorate not the comment on the matter.
Some of the teachers who spoke to Iliasu on condition of anonymity express worrying at the situation which they said is affecting teaching and learning.
They added that the lack of desks in the classroom has made most of the pupils truants – a situation they noted could affect the future of the kids.
But the Municipal Chief Executive of Tamale, Alhaji Abdul Hanan Gundadoo in an interview with Adom News, said the condition at Al-suaredeen has not been brought to his attention.
But he said if the school is approved by the Ghana Education Service (GES), desks will be dispatched to the school.
“We have about 500 units of desks available for distribution so if it [Al-suaredeen] a GES approved school, they will get some of the tables and chairs” he stated.
Alhaji Gundadoo said government is still committed to improving the educational sector.
Meanwhile, a promise by the Member of Parliament for the area, Haruna Iddrisu to provide desks for the school is yet to materialise

Dr. Bawumia pointed out that the NDC had increased Ghana’s debt in seven years by GHC90 billion, from GHC9.5 billion at the end of 2009 to some GHC99 billion currently; an equivalent of some 37 billion dollars at the time of borrowing.

“First, If you sum the cost of all the loan financed projects listed in the green book (even including those with artistic impressions, it is less than $7 billion. Meanwhile, the government has borrowed the equivalent of $37 billion so where is the rest of the money? Indeed, given the resources at its disposal one should expect at least four times the quantum of investment that the NDC claims to have undertaken”, Dr. Bawumia said, as he began listing the six reasons.

Dr. Bawumia proceeded to list a number of things the over 30billion dollars from borrowing the NDC cannot account for, could have done, which proves that contrary to the claims, the NDC has done a bad job at giving Ghanaians their due after undertaking unprecedented borrowing in the last seven years.

It is on record that the other drill ship that Kufuor and Nana Akufo Addo did not sell is still working and bringing some money into the coffers of Ghana.

Why pass judgment on a person without giving him the opportunity to defend himself? Appau is a ruffian and without a shred of goodness in him. He has a record for distasteful behavior. In the heat of the revolution, he turned his back on the conventional justice system and chose to go along with the gang of fake revolutionists, to run it down. Appau now sees nothing to accept a position on the Supreme Court. Worst still, a gloved hand gave Appau a knife and he was specifically instructed to thrust same at the back of an innocent man for a position on the bench of the Supreme Court. Some conscience!

John Boadu should not start another losing battle. He is puerilely temperamental. As much as it sounds partisanly appetizing, the real taste in the mouth of every insightful political observer of this allegation of quid pro quo between Apau and President Mahama, or that the President instructed the Commissioner to find some dirt on his most potent Opposing presidential candidate, Akufo-Addo, would be very lastingly sour.

Defending the NPP flagbearer of any adverse finding in the Sole Commissioner's report is one thing. But extrapolating any such findings to mean the Commissioner colluded with the ruling Party to specifically find fault with the NPP flagbearer would be reaching too far into the legal bee-hive. And that could well jeopardize further the chances of the NPP Flagbearer in the up-coming general Elections.

More, Boadu's line of attack on the Sole Commissioner and his subsequent appointment to the Supreme Court opens up a dormant quandary on former President Kufuor's handling of Tsatsu Tsikata's case, as well as that of Kwame Peprah, both NDC former appointees.

John Boadu has, thus, rattled a bee-hive, and must gear up to deal with its consequences on the political dreams of his boss, Akufo-Addo. One would have thought that the less reminding of the faux-pas by Akufo-Addo as the Attorney-General under former President Kufuor, the better the chances would be for the NPP Flagbearer. But John Boadu seems to dare the NDC and all opposing Akufo-Addo's presidential bid to fight him on the existing records.

Hmmm! Sometimes, we better ponder more deeply and long what we ask for.
