Not surprised at all because they normally breed in gutters and if there is a burst pipe in the gutter then its very easy to get its way through the pipe to the house tap, same is feases dogs and humans that also breed typho ...

Almost every pedestrians face I have looked into in Ghana looks so sick, almost zombie-like.
I suspect the main pipeline might have got broken somewhere at a stage. Since it took some time to mend the pipeline, that might have enabled the creatures to enter the water.
