Ghana is paying six times its total oil revenue as interest on the country’s total public debt stock; that’s the computation done by former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

“We’ll reach GHC99billion by the end of this year 2015,” the Running Mate to the Flagbearer of the biggest opposition Party said in a post-budget presentation interview with Richard Sky of Citi FM.

“The interest on this debt alone is going to be six times Ghana’s oil revenue,” Dr Bawumia said.

“When we found oil, we were happy that we found oil, but the borrowing of this Government has compromised the whole oil discovery; you need six times our oil revenue just to pay interest on the debt, not even capital, so, it is a really sad development,” he complained.

As for Voltarians they remember the deeds of the NPP, even in opposition they have been at the fore front of attack from the NPP. The NPP called Voltarians foreigners and indicated they do not deserve to be Ghanaians. We Ghanaian are one people and it always saddens me when the NPP is trying to play the ethnic card.

Volta Region remains an important part of Ghana and the NDC will not allow them to be looked upon by anybody. The NDC government will always put the interest of Ghana first.

Neither NDC or NPP or any political party should government premises for political agitations and rallies. If he prefers to canvass for the private institutions he can do so. As for the NPP, their government is always against our national achievement and institutions which have profited and educated the Ghanaians since the birth of Ghana independence. The record of NPP has always being destruction of our national assets which Ghana has been proud of as civilized nation. Not to mention when Kufuor and NPP government including Nana Addo rule the country for the eight years the first thing they did was to sell the Ghana airways corporation and formed Ghana international with his so-called accountant son and within a year the Ghana international collapsed. Also, Kufour and his NPP government sold Ghana telecommunications to Vodafone and shared the money among themselves before leaving office. No more NPP government in Ghana.

As an economist am disapointed in the lies and ignorance shown by both NPP and NDC politicians when it comes to revenue generation.Its simple you get what you paid for, if Ghana wants to see development let each and every one start paying some form of taxes, thats the only way people can get involved in the political process and demand accountability. The forprofit Universities in Ghana (private universities) has full autonomy on setting fees, whether government tax them on not does not reflect on how much students pay, they will still set fees high because many frustrated qualified students who couldn't get into the public universities will surely patronize them. Private Universities are business firms making profits, they are taxed based on the profits they make thus if they even report it lol. Bawumia cant play on th ignorance of Ghanaians.
