Why didn't he tell us all along that his 37 billion dollars was a projection and not the actual amount borrowed? He kept saying the NDC has borrowed 37 billion dollars everywhere he went when total debt stock including NPP stock is 24 billion dollars; wasn't tha a deliberate and wicked lie? The NPP has made this charlatan think he is more knowledgeable that everyone else. He even now wants to play the super finance minister, knowing how much we have borrowed more than the person in charge of the books. According to CIA library or fact-book that I visited yesterday, it was written that Ghana's debt has reached US$37.68 Billion.

There is nothing like mere speculation or exaggeration as the president is saying because may be CIA got that information from International financial institutions that have been helping the government with loans so it would be very accurate.

It is a shame that such huge amount of money has been collected from all angles, yet there have been no improvements in our lives.

Our Cedi has depreciated by over 300% against the hard currencies, trainees allowances have been removed, government cannot meet its statutory payments, our graduates are jobless and hospitals are collapsing, after over US$30 billion has been received by President Manama and his government.

Out of that huge amount of money, only US$ 2 billion would have been sufficient to set up 550 companies across the country to absorb our unemployed graduates.

Ghana imports almost everything including chalks, sacks and toot- picks, this is very shameful.

The president should give us an undoubted stewardship as the constitution requires and stop throwing dust into our eyes.

Since when is it the norm that "Future value" is the yardstick used to determine how much one is borrowing? No where is future value used for such a purpose, specifically determining a nation's debt stock, although Future Value can be used in laying out a Risk Management framework to better manage the debt stock and ensure we are on a sound footing to take care of the debt as we progress into the future.

The norm is to use "Present Value" because we cannot predict with any degree of certainty, conditions such are Interest rate, Inflation, etc in 3 years, 10 years, 15 years, or 30 years. What you have a handle on (what you know with sure certainty) is present conditions (current interest rates).

Bawumia Balawuu Buluu's argument is purely academic. Ask the fool what will be the prevailing interest rate in 3 years time (be it under an NDC or NPP government) and the fool will not be able top tell you the answer with any certainty.

May be this stupid NPP economist needs a little bit of education himself.

When you borrow money, you borrow a fixed amount, at either a fixed or variable interest rate, and over a fixed payment period. These are "known knowns". Sovereign debts (when a nation borrows money)are always at fixed rate, and not Variable. So from the get go, you know how much your debt stock is, you know how much you will pay in interest (called Cost of borrowing), and over what time period.

So, because our interest rates are fixed, the payment period is also known, you know the "Present Value" of your debt (Principal and Interest).

It is never the argument that debt is calculated as a Future value, even though it could be done for academic purposes and also to have a feel of the future.

Bawumia must be told that the monies that we borrow aren't used to buy "chinchinga" but rather they are invested into projects that will pay dividend in the future. That uis why we have something like Cost-Benefit analysis. If the benefits outweighs the Future value of these debts, then it makes business sense to borrow and invest in those projects.

Bawumia is very disingenuous. He must stop the lies and fabrications, and know that he is not the only educated Ghanaian who can read. He claimed recently that NDC people don't read. They are the only ones who read. How arrogant can this dumbass be? No wonder he joined forces with another arrogant fool called Akufo Addo.

Does this Dr. has no other stuff apart from Ghana's debt. I'm quite bored about same stuff every time he wanted to make a point. Is the borrowed money used for any development projects in Ghana ? This Dr. must work on another strong point. I think this Dr. Knows that Ghana is credit worthy. Otherwise no country is ready to give the loans.
Dr. Don't be jealous. Allow H.E Mahama develop the nation. He knows how to negotiate.

This analysis is a strange. $24 billion in 2001 would still be $24 billion in 2016. However if we exchange $24billion using exchange rate in 2001 into local currency it would obviously be less than using exchange rate in 201 ...

I don't think this amounts to the loan value being raised to $37 billion. In local currency, yes there would be a change but dollar terms, NO.
