A young man named Kuffuor received a parrot named John as a gift. Problem was, the parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Kuffuor tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary, but to no avail.
Finally, Kuffuor was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. Kuffuor shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude In desperation, Kuffuor threw up his hands, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.
Then suddenly, there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he'd killed the parrot, Kuffuor quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto Kuffuor's outstretched arm
and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I am sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."
Kuffuor was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued.

I perfectly agree with JAK on the fact that our beloved Great Ghana is selling oil, gas; and also that cocoa production is seemingly more attractive than it used to be. To add more feathers to this proverbial 'cup of embarrassment of riches', I would dare to add gold production.

That said, and with all due respect to our noble second president of the Fourth Republic: I beg to differ with his deduction that, these riches should translate to good life for the people of Ghana, -- even without proper planning, and management.

In perspective, this is why I differ with JAK. First of all when Ghana started selling oil, the price of oil was above $100.00 a barrel, gold was going through the roof, and cocoa was going strong in the commodities market. Even when Standard & Poors together with Finch downgraded our credit rating they expressed a ray of hope that our revenues from the newly found oil and gas sector would work to strengthen the economy. That ray of hope is seemingly on the rocks.

This begs the question:
What is the price of oil today? It's hovering around $38.00 a barrel, -- with no end in sight to this downward spiral.

As for the two other commodities, -- cocoa and gold -- that we had hoped would augment our revenues: they are gathering dust.

The falling price of oil we can all attribute to the glut of oil supply in the global markets. Cocoa we all know is more or less for good times. When the rich don't have enough disposable income, they don't buy chocolate, and beverages. Gold is the illusive one.

Gold and the U.S. dollar go in opposite directions. When investors move their money from the dollar they put it into gold. In this way: the value of the U.S. dollar goes down and; the price of gold goes up.

The problem here is that, the United States has the capability of controlling how far down the dollar can go, -- the vice versa how far up it wants the price of gold to go. This is so because, although the United States has no known gold-mines, it has the largest processed gold reserves, -- more than even Russia, and the UK.

Presently the value of dollar is sky-rocketing, -- more countries are buying it. Hence our revenue from gold is low.

With this kind of global setbacks to the commodities in our proverbial 'cup of embarrassment of riches', who is to blame for the present sad situation our people are facing today?

We should blame all the presidents that our beloved country has had since March 6, 1957. Instead of learning to play the world's game of capitalism, and focusing on the needs of Ghana; they turn their attention to Africa, with a socialist mentality, -- not necessarily to bring anything good home, for the people of Ghana, but rather to give our stuff away. This president is just as guilty of this mentality as all of his predecessors, -- and perhaps the one waiting in line to succeed him.

Let me assure the people of Ghana: the two of them are free to fight for the presidency in this election cycle; but the battle for the heart, and soul of our beloved Great Ghana would be fought in the 2020 election cycle.

That would be the time when we shall all rise up and say: Enough (Assez)!

May Lord Almighty continue to bless our beloved Great Ghana: Amen!!!

The oil money is so corruptive that all other sectors no longer looks attractive, infact they come to a standstill. Oil is like lotto. The next day it is gone. Billions can be won and billions can be lost overnight with a sudden fall in prices. Better to develop non-oil sectors than putting hope on oil. What is that Nana Addo can do different? Mahama at least has shown some prudent spending, no gold chains, no prestigious projects. Corruption according to Kuffour is from the days of Adam. In that regard, Mahama can be spared this wishful thinking of a spent force in his NPP who is suddenly finding his voice because it is an election year and he must speak to be heard.

Recalling the conditions and situations in Ghana in 2008 when NDC government led by the late President Attah-Mills and the current president John Mahama. In 2000 to 2008 the situation of the world economy was booming and the agricultural commodities, metals and gold as well as oil prices were high. Also it was easy to get loans from developed countries for investment in infra-structure other developments. Yet, Kufuor and NPP government including Nana Addo left Ghana roads, streets, and fly-overs dusty and uncompleted for more than four years. Kufuor and NPP government sold Ghana Airways airlines as well as Ghana telecommunications to vodafones despite the fact that these national assets which have operated fore more than fifty years helping to bring in foreign money to the country's economy. Despite the economy downturn since 2008 when the commodities price fall including oil and foreign aids President Mahama and NDC government have completed all the roads, streets and fly-overs without selling our national assets. Kufuor and government should ashamed and ban from Ghana.

What percentage of the oil is Ghana getting? Estimate 7-12%! Is that a fair negotiation? And his friends even got 5%!
The NPP is not strong because of Kufuor! Had the UP tradition not banned the CPP, there would be no NDC as the PNDC boys would have just joined one of two political traditions and /possibly a third party.
