I believe that the average Ghanaian is rational such that he believes that his political party can lose elections. It is the perception of electoral fraud that is the problem. 24 years after a return to a multiparty system, Ghana is mired in electoral dispute. every election cycle is a period for accusation and counter accusation of fraud and rigging. Why do we need a Peace Council every election time. NPP under Kuffour had a good chance of reforming electoral laws and processes to make elections more transparent and free from fraud. The NPP did not care because it believed it could use the corrupt system to its advantage. There is incontrovertible evidence that double voting, under age voting, foreigners voting, and voting by unregistered citizens pervade the electoral process. In addition, the electoral commissioner has been incompetent. In Israel, India, and South Korea citizens don't pray for peace just because elections are around the corner? The fact that we go about accepting the accolade that Ghana is civilized, peaceful, and democratic makes us cowards and hypocrites. Every four years Ghana undergoes a tense moment with many well meaning citizens praying for peace. Ghana is sitting on a time bomb. To solve the problem, we must acknowledge that we are not different from other African countries.
The Supreme Court has rendered itself useless when it comes to the issue of electoral disputes. No aggrieved party in its right senses will ask the Supreme court to adjudicate electoral dispute. In any civilized society, a Supreme Court has to the power to mandate series of reforms. In the 2012 election dispute the Supreme court ruled that everything was perfect with the electoral process and system.

Instead of the stated location of Movenpick or Alisa Hotel, they ended up far away Dunkwa, Central Region, engaged in a "business" that involved weapon handling, etc. Secondly, 30 pieces of military uniforms were found in their possession, among other items. Where did they get those? Why were those items not included in the things they "declared" at the airport?. Thirdly, why was the dossier on the staff (both past and present) of Superlock Technologies, including a SWOT analysis of their strengths and weaknesses,including their residential addresses, in their possession? Does that not amount to a case of espionage?? Superlock Technologies has been mandated by the EC to work with it during elections. Furthermore, no serious intelligence agency will ignore the fact that one of them is a frequent traveler to Iraq. How about that to chew on? This issue goes beyond NDC and NPP. They should hold back their communicators from making political capital of this sad spectacle.One thing is certain-somebody make a very very poor judgement within the NPP, in respect of the framework used in bringing these three gentlemen into the country. The SA High Commission has even indicated that it's purely a criminal case and hence cannot interfere, given that these men were not diplomats. Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has alleged that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has contracted some Americans to train young men to serve as security detail for the party in the November polls.
The opposition lawmaker’s allegation follows the arrest of three South African ex-police officers for training party members of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), as security men to protect flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, and his running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking to Class News, Mr Agyapong questioned why government was bent on victimising the three South Africans, and by extension, Nana Akufo-Addo, when the governing party, according to him, had also engaged the services of some foreign experts to do the very thing they are speaking against.
“Everybody has a right to live, and nobody has the right to take anybody’s life. That is why we are here,” he stated.
“You see a lot of things going on and I am surprised the whole world has kept quiet. As I speak, [the] NDC has Americans training people at Asutsuare and nobody is saying anything about it.
“A Member of Parliament [Joseph Boakye Dankwa-Adu] has died and nobody knows what is happening, and if our flagbearer gets people to train his own security, then you call it espionage.
“They [government] rushed and they have embarrassed themselves again but, you know, all I will say is: ‘Let’s have patience’, let’s have peace’; they only want to come out and say that NPP is violent, ‘we told you Nana Akufo-Addo is violent’. Every move they have made, they failed because Nana is not like that; NPP is not a violent party.”
