A country that gained independence nearly 60 years ago is still not able to have a proper identification system to determing who is a Ghanaian and who is not. Dr. Bawumia's first point (Formalizing the Economy) is the most important one. Simple thing we can not do. If we have a proper identification system we will even be fighting over voters register. In Europe here only you Surname and and date of birth can locate you and where you are. Kid who are newly born have their names registered in less than 3 days. Even pregnancies of 7 months are registered in the respective municipalities. The system makes things so easy. If a country like Ghana can not tell exactly how many people it has then how do you work work out how to help out?

By your very poor assessment and understanding of African development and economy, the ID system cannot simply work in Ghana because even your man Kuffuor and his looting brigades looted the economy instead of them focusing on "Formalizing the Economy" with their so-called "Zero Tolerance of Corruption". Anyway, it seems to me that Nana Addo has no campaign messages at all so Bawumia has to deliver on his behalf. That is not a winnable political strategy to win the incoming elections. Take it or leave, or better still live with it.

Unfortunately, in Ghana the major problem is not the formulation or the putting up of plans but the IMPLEMATION of those plans. This means "the way from the top to the bottom" is highly difficult to achieve. The policy makers have to be very actice in the implemation of those plans, and this can surely accelerate the development which we all are yearning for.

At least, it is only when people risk carrying bulk sums of money around that they will buy in the e-payment system. E-zwich was a good step taken by the NPP in 2007 but it ended up failing because the NPP at the same time re-denominated the cedi making it easy for people to carry large sums of money around in the small pockets. the best as to go in for the e-zwich only.

This is the difference. Bawumia’s rant is about having competent people who will detail of contract, putting right people in places for execution of polices that will benefit Ghanaian.

With funds from oil revenue looted in addition to the wanton and indiscriminate looting of borrowed loans, then you are very much rest assured retrogression and stagnation and the collapse of the economic fortunes of the country becomes the norm as is being witnessed all over the country. Such a gov't does not deserve a minute in office after 6pm on November 7th, not a second not a minute more with such a crass record.

Personal addresses and identification are crucial for any meaningful development.
That means, post and parcels will have to be delivered home to ensure unique address system is working. Before the system is started, there should be legislation to address fraudulent use of databases, double registration, false names etc.
To cut cost of operating the databases, banks, and other financial institutions should be encouraged to contributed in setting up the databases in return for some access rights.
By the way, why is Dr Bawumia the Vice presidential candidate and not the potential Finance minister?

AT PRESENT, OUR EDUCATION LEADS TO ONLY ONE PLACE, "FOR SOMEONE TO EMPLOY ME NOT TO WORK FOR MYSELF OR TO GET A SKILL". A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE IS THE GERMAN EDUCATION SYSTEM. EVEN IN MALAYSIA, CHINA MEXICO, POLAND LITHUANIA AND THE NEW DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. THEY ARE GEARED TOWARDS TECHNICAL COMPETENCE THAN ACADEMIC COMPETENCE. IT ALLOWS STUDENTS TO SOME OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS WITH A SKILL. THEREFORE THEY CONCENTRATE ON DRESS MAKING/DESIGNING (CHINA), COMPUTER SCIENCE (INDIA), HOUSE BUILDING (MEXICO) PHARMACEUTICALS (INDIA), ROAD BUILDING, MACHINERY AND CONSTRUCTION (GERMANY). THIS WILL ENABLE GRADUATES TO COME OUT HIGH LEVEL INSTITUTIONS TO COME OUT WITH SELF EMPLOYMENT SKILLS.

THE NEXT THING I BELIEVE IT TO IMPROVE OUR TELECOMMUNICATION INFRASTRUCTURE. THAT MEANS YOU DON'T NEED TO TRAVEL TOO FAR TO BE EMPLOYED. THE INFORMAL SECTOR CAN AND WILL BE DEVELOPED BETTER.

ALSO AUDITING OF OUR SYSTEM WILL HELP A LOT. THE ECONOMY SHOULD BE ONE WHERE THERE ARE PROPER CHECKS WITH REVIEWS. THIS CAN HELP US TO CONSOLIDATE THE EMPLOYMENT WE HAVE RATHER THAN LOSING WHAT WE HAVE.

I BELIEVE DR BAWUMIAHS ASSERTIONS CAN SUPPLEMENT THESE IMPORTANT ISSUES AS THEY ARE MORE PRACTICAL.
THERE ARE MORE POINTS BUT I THINK THESE ARE MORE PERTINENT IN OUR SOCIETY.

Is this not exactly what this administration is doing? Is this not the same Bawumia who has been criticising gov't for borrowing to invest in infrastructural development?

The textbook stuff being spewed out by Bawumia is pathetic. Tax incentives for foreign investors have just not worked. The investors take advantage of our overgenerous and lax tax regime to avoid and evade paying tax. This will in no way help youth employment. Neither will the formalizaton of the economy nor development of the mortgage market - these may lead to artificial economic growth but do not do much for real economic development.

Better to teach the youth entrepreneurial skills and help them set up their own entreprises. I thought NPP was the party of private entreprise.
