Meanwhile, one of the reasons why Akyem is so stagnant in underdevelopment is because of the same problem of allowing the Traditional Authorities reign without accountability.
Do you know, for instance, how much money the Government collects for the Okyeman in Royalties from the Mineral and Timber exploitation alone, every year? Ask yourself what percentage of that ever goes to improve the lives of the ordinary folks in the area.
But our folks are not allowed by culture to dare query the Traditional Authorities. So, the Chiefs then tend to use such funds for their personal comfort. So, now, why would we have to blame only the Government for lack of developments in our areas?
Surely, most areas deserve more than just what accrues from the Royalties to build infrastructure. Yes, so long as People pay taxes, they deserve something back in developmental projects from the Government. Therefore, the Government could be taken to task if it fails in that responsibility.
However, if our Chiefs are so selfish and corrupt that they cannot use what comes to them directly for helping the People, how can they justify blaming the Government for such lapses?
Just think about how many Akyem folks have been in various Governments since Independence, and how many of them have higher Education. And ask yourself why has the area been left way back, behind many other places with much less resources.
So, if the Okyehene has any query for anyone on that issue, it should first go to the leading Akyem folks in the Society. What has Akufo-Addo, Hackman Owusu, Osafo Marfo, Atta Akyea, and all the others loudmouth Politicians living big all the time, done for Akyem, thus far?

What the Okyenhene must come to terms with is that, ''big" as he is, he is not beyond criticism. Honestly, what the NDC chairman said to the Okyenhene could not constitute an insult but merely a criticism. As far as the chairman was concerned, he did not see why the Okyenhene, who is not the minister for roads, should inspecting roads since he is not the minister for roads. Whether he is right or wrong is irrelevant. At any rate, like any other citizen, the Okyenhene cannot take the law into his hands. He has no right under our laws to be at the same time, the accuser, prosecutor and judge over anybody.

Where was the Okyehene in all the past years that the roads were either neglected or poorly constructed? The situation was never better when Akufo-Addo was a Member of Parliament and later a Cabinet Minister, along with others like Osafo Marfo and Hackman Owusu.
Meanwhile, what did the Okyeman do with the many Royalties from the Mining and Timber Industries in the area? A lot has also been talked about the Galamsey that goes on in the area with the tacit approval of the Traditional Authorities. Why haven't the Chiefs properly organized these activities to raise enough Revenues to undertake most of the Infrastructural needs of the area?
The Railway System had for decades been the only Transportation artery to very industrious Agricultural interior of the Okyeman, and yet the Chiefs sat there to let it disintegrate while the Roads were not built, either.
So, if the Chief would tour to see the condition of the Roads in the area, that is good. But he would be betraying himself if he pins any shortfall in that developmental sector on the current Government alone. The Okyehene, therefore, must first blame himself for that deterioration and neglect of Akyem.
With regard to the two insulting him, he only has to summons them to the Court to answer the charges, if the Chief is any democratic, and respects Human and Civil Rights of 'Akyemfuor'. We don't live in a dictatorship. And the Palace is not for the Chief but for all the People.
If we were to live by that logic to ban these two from the Palace for insulting the Chief, many folks from the Chiefs area, Akyem, including Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., for example, would be banned from ever stepping at the Flagstaff House, for incessantly insulting the President. And the Okyehene is not higher in status than the President!
It is all nothing but a show of primitive 'Atuturasem' that our Traditional Authorities long wielded upon us. The Chief may be having nostalgia for the days when People could be easily capitulated just for insulting the Chief in our system. Duh! Those days are long gone. I cannot help saying.
By the way, had the two culprits been NPP members, would the Chief have pronounced such an edict on them? And I am not a member of NDC, nor its sympathizer. Just a curious common Ghanaian.
