  It is easy to criticize an existing system but to propose an alternative system that is superior is not so easy.
  For instance when continuous assessment of students was introduced at the JHS level some time ago, its implementation was a total flop so it was discontinued.
  The continuous assessment was a system in which the student's classroom performance was assessed and recorded to take 40% of his/her final assessment. Thus the final BECE exam conducted by WAEC took 60%.
  In the implementation of the continuous assessment however, it was found that the schools were awarding unrealistic marks to their students to enable them score high grades. It was thus discontinued for the WAEC BECE to be the only assessment.
  The complain that the exams are failing several children cannot stand because, presently, the numbers that pass the BECE at the JHS level and the WASCE at the SHS level do not have enough classrooms at the SHS and tertiary schools respectively to absorb them.
  Those who critcize an existing system must go forward to offer a better alternative and how to implement it.

  Assuming there are enough classrooms in the available SHS's to enable a wholesale promotion of all JHS graduates to SHS, what will happen when they complete SHS?

  WAEC is an examination body and therefore assesses students by way of examinations. If the method of assessment needs reformation, the proposal has to come from the Ministry of Education for all schools to implement. WAEC does not have the power to alter the educational system and students' assessment methodology of the country.

  Why blame WAEC, when the government of the day through MoE prescribe and regulate the educational system. The technocrats shd have done that eg the 3 yr to 4 yr and back.

  I am so so glad someone has began the dialogue on this. It has been my position all this while that WAEC has become useless. This I believe is as a result of the monopoly they are enjoying in the country. The time is up for us to encourage other examining bodies to break the monopoly of WAEC. Students who failed BECE years back had their educated terminated for good. It was only until quite recently that the state made the smart decision of making it possible for students to resit BECE. WAEC has truncated a lot of destinies while we look on. We must break their monopoly now to save the future of our kids. Is it not appalling that if WAEC should ban you from taking their exams because of an offence, your education ends there simply because there's no alternative examining body available. SAY NO TO WAEC MONOPOLY! !!!!!!

  Cheating has been in the system since Adam . Mr Hafer should give us an alternative if he thinks the item differentiator isn't effective, it's easier to criticize without giving alternative means in solving problems
