Yes, we use the head to carry loads, and also take knocks if we became 'disobedient kids' ( I beg ooo, don't go and knock the poor kids on the head, it is a bad practice ). It is the BRAIN which is inside the head, which is used for thinking and studying. Because of this we have "HEAD PORTERAGE", the process of carrying loads or goods from one place to the other. in fact this is a common practice in ghana, other african countries. We do not have "BRAIN PORTERAGE", we could rather say, "BRAIN THINKING". Prof, this your stone oooooo !

The head is far more important than what we've sadly thought for years, carrying.

Understand it. You dont use the head to see for instans or to smell but we refer to the head when we think. We can say "he has a good head" and can remember things for instance.

Prof. idea is to get a basic function of the head to the kids and as they grow and learn more, other uses will be taught or learned. A class one pupil in our society will see many people including their parents carrying things on their heads that is one physical function of the head. Now biologically the head has another organ call the brain which controls all the activities of the human body. To say to a class one pupil who sees his mother carrying loads on the head every day that the head is for thinking is right but abstract at that age.

A six-year old kid only grab the content of what he's being taught when illustrations and demonstrations are used. We should remember that, the head doesn't only harbor our brains for thinking purposes but contain other organs like the mouth, eyes, ears, nose and the skull which bodyguards the brain. There is no single function of the head because the head is not an organ like the brain but a system which contains some organs coming together to perform one unique function like the respiratory system for breathing, the digestive system responsible for food digestion etc. How do you explain to a kid that the head is for thinking knowing very well the head doesn't house only the brain but other important organs which the kid need to know together with their function? Is it right for anyone to separate organs like the mouth, ears and eyes from the head. Madam minister, the brain is part of the head and not the head itself.

Consider teaching primary one child the uses of the human body parts in an activity based lesson. The child has a relevant previous knowledge on the subject already. And we build on what the child already knows from his environment. The child plays in the house and do carry things on the head. The child, from his environment, may have seen people carrying loads on the head. If u ask any child the primary function of the head, in this case what the child sees physically, he will say for carrying loads. Enter into any school and ask this question and listen for yourself. You can't demonstrate to the child physically that the head is used for thinking. At the level of lower primary, it is right to say that the eyes are for seeing or sight but as the child progresses to different stages, he will be made to understand that it's really the brain that interprets what the physical eyes see before we can actually see. The Minister, as educationist who understands activity based lesson, shouldn't have said that all. I would loved to see her demonstrate to class one pupils how to use the head to think. The child at that level do not understands abstract things. The child wants to hear, see and do. This is the philosophy behind Activity Based Learning. How will the child see how to use the head to think???? This is short of educational principles. Madam Minister, come again.

The head is used to wear crowns, rings, caps and other ornaments, Muslim women use the hijab to cover the head. We use our hands and feet to do a lot of things, and at times terrible things, but not the bone marrow which is a soft tissue in the bone without which the foot and hand can not do what they do.
Thus, since the head is also used to do some sort of work which is carrying things, then invariably the head is used to carry loads and the brain condition the head to carry heavy objects.

Quarm Joseph Albert.Prof has proven he is a threat to intelligence and education, and from this book and other such books which may not be known to Ghanaians, he has sought to mis-educate and entrench primitivity, which should have no place in this 21st century.
If of all the examples which could be given for the use of the head, that was what Quarm Joseph Albert.Prof could come up with, then there is a problem, Ghana has a problem and it is not surprising educational standards in this country under the Mahama NDC govt has fallen so precipitously. Under the John Dramani Mahama-led NDC gov't, Ghana is plainly, just not working.

Learning at the lower primary is activity-based or concrete learning.Therefore, lower primary students are asked to observe and report what they see around them. So if you take class one child to the market to observe what people are using their head for, the response that the class one child will give will be based on what he or she saw but not on intuitive response or abstract thinking.
