  I have been telling some of my friends at Kumasi Metro GES to help scrap the BECE.If in Ghana children are allowed to marry or have sex only after age 16, vote at age 18, drive after age 18 etc.then it means below those ages they don't know what they are doing. Most of these children write BECE at age 13.We are confusing them. Puberty start around that age.At time they are now discovering this strange world at a new level. Please SCRAP BECE IMMEDIATELY.

If one wants to be a lawyer, go to law school and don't lose your certificate when you attain it. Mount it in your office for all to see if it is real. If it is a fake one, you cannot display the certificate so it will be lost eventually. You would not know where you hid it. If you do not believe this, ASK NANA ADDO.

  The BECE serves the same purpose as SAT, GCE etc. IT is a general barometer for the students.
  This is not the time for knee jerk reaction to the exam leakages. It is not difficult to catch whoever leaked the current ones since some of the beneficiaries were caught red handed. A stiff punishment not excluding life in jail will be enough deterrent, believe me.
  We need not encourage "NO LAW WORKS" syndrome in Ghana. Make the laws work.

  We are overlooking the fact that students want good grades so as to be able to get admission to first class schools and not necessarily competing for the "few" schools. The question is if we scrap the BECE, what will be the criteria for selecting students for admissions to the SHS? Don't forget that we all want our kids to go to Prempeh, Achimota, Wesley Girls, OWASS, Presec, etc. Let's also look at all those factors.

  Hanson, The response to the questions is that this schools will admit students based on their cumulative assessment over the primary education and may conduct individual entries examination or examination model in the form of SAT. There could be multiples of such examines of that nature to create competition. The well organised ones will have the highest subscriptions from the SHS. If you organised a bogus one no school will subscribed. By this we will do away with WAEC monopoly. If will create such space more international acclaimed examination bodies will pitch camp in Ghana. And you know want will happen credibility of our educational system.

  I full agree. BCE as exams must stay as and academic assessment point for the kids. They must all go to SSS and Grade 12, must be the point of writing certificate exams. As it is now most of those young and immature kids who fail these exams drop off after grade 9, and majority move into domestic servitude, or turn into gangsters. To me 3 year of extra academic training will make them mature and that may lead them to curve their own pathways should they even fail to continue to colleges. ..

Everyone should be encouraged to attend your own local school. It will save parents money for even travelling long distance. Aside most of the students that make names in big schools are not even local students. They come from different region or travels more kilometers to that school.

BCE can still be written for government to assess the whole academic system but no certificates must be awarded here (grade 9 BCE). They are totally useless.

  Is Dr. Awuah making this suggestion as the solution to exams papers leakage or as a way to improve the standard of education in Ghana. There should certainly be a kind of assessment at the end of that key stage of children's education to ensure that they have reached the required standard of education before progressing into higher education. If no targets are set, how are we supposed to measure achievement? There are children who leave JHS still unable to do basic arithmetic, unable read and comprehend and unable to understand basic scientific processes which would be vital as they progress into higher education. What needs to be done is to ensure that the assessment is effective, the examination council is fit for a purpose and the schools who are failing those children are put into special measures. Presently, it is the Examination council which is not fit for a purpose and not the idea of the examination itself.

  Jss is a mersary to the poor rural children and this a human right issue.I am from a poor peasant family living in one of the several decades of political marginalisation/neglect ,thank to the Roman catholic missionaries,I had a primary school about 15km to attend and I was fortunate to pass St Charles secondary sch. exam in addition to common entrance to sch.school.The system at that time was very free,faire and Democratic.Why? At the time ,it matters not where one comes from,family status, Lawra,Bible,Yarikoi,Kokoligu,
  Tuobodom,Bakpa,Sambuli, Mpasaso Dotiem, once you meet the mark to Achimota,Adisedel,Nadom sech, etc etc,no one will short change you in the name of Current Ghanaian morbid protocol.BECE should be scraped and scarce educational resources Chanel to P1_6, 5yrs secondary school and functional literacy for few who have not got formal education and MUST be capture on board for personal and national development.The current educational system is intimidatory,discriminatory, expensive(not cost effective) and of course perpertuating the poverty,hopelessness and misery of rural folks to the advantage of politicians and other policy makers ,NOTABLY the think tanks of educationists.

  About 74% of the graduates and leaders of the nation today were culprits of examination malpractices and for that matter making it difficult for the system to be brought on track since the genuine ones are few for their best ideas to be accepted by those rogues.Nations are bound to suffer from all angles when the majority are not genuine,meanwhile majority carries the vote.This has led to the poor performance of our education sector and the development of the nation since most of the leaders were culprits themselves!

Tell e a student with 5Bs in English, literature, Government CRS,, social studies and A1 in French but D7 in maths.He wants to teach French . Because of Mathematics he has to stay at home for another year.
