Ghana is paying six times its total oil revenue as interest on the country’s total public debt stock; that’s the computation done by former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

“We’ll reach GHC99billion by the end of this year 2015,” the Running Mate to the Flagbearer of the biggest opposition Party said in a post-budget presentation interview with Richard Sky of Citi FM.

“The interest on this debt alone is going to be six times Ghana’s oil revenue,” Dr Bawumia said.

“When we found oil, we were happy that we found oil, but the borrowing of this Government has compromised the whole oil discovery; you need six times our oil revenue just to pay interest on the debt, not even capital, so, it is a really sad development,” he complained.

Although a mythical figure his living environment depicts how English rural people were living at the same time that Ashanti people fled to live in the Forests (to live as Refugees to escape their common oppressor the Denkyira Army, prior to conquering them in 1701).

Let's face the truth, folks. We can assume that all is fine and dandy between the two. But every keen observer of both our secular and traditional political atmospheres in recent times could acknowledge that the two climates bear all the facts and reasons for which the alluded fracas could have arisen between Manhyia and the Ofori-Panin House.

Ever since Akufo-Addo began his third quest for the Presidency, and his minions in the so-called Akyem Mafia resorted to personal attacks against members of their Ashanti counterpart of which the former President Kufuor is seen as the key leader, tension has kept soaring between the two sub-ethnic groups. All of a sudden, the pugnacious Akyem Mafia and its sympathizers, find the Kufuor Faction as a major source of Akufo-Addo's inability to win the Elections, and have been creating the subterfuge to link the problem to general sub-ethnic interests.

Most of that tension was more visible among ordinary folks on both sides but, increasingly, certain well-known, and not, necessarily, official spokespersons on each side have been taking swipes at the Chiefs who are their Traditional leaders.

Particular instances of such unwarranted assault on the Otumfuor, for example, could be tracked down to Professor Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., who claims to relate to Akufo-Addo, and has been, for long, his most vociferous "professorial" verbal arsenal against all who are perceived to be anti-Akufo-Addo's Presidency.

Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr. has variously verbally insulted the former President Kufuor and even the Otumfuor (given the standard of civility we normally accord such leaders).

I, personally, took an umbrage at the Professor's behavior and responded to him appropriately, for at least, one instance of such grotesque needless disrespect for the Otumfuor and the former President. The Professor's written assault was so fully laced with ethnic inferences that folks with any appreciation for our common destiny, regardless of our background, would cringe after reading it. Which is what I did.

I would, therefore, not be surprised if some other Ashanti sympathizers might also retaliate in kind against the Okyehene. Personally, I very recently submitted a few comments to question the propriety of certain comments purported to have been made by the Okyehene on issues that arose from recent squabbles on "Galamasey" and under-development in his area.

Those questions I raised had no bearing on what has now emerged to be an underlying, subtle feud on behalf of the two Traditional leaders.

Nevertheless, I cannot help but mention that there is a certain tendency among the Akufo-Addo's political loudmouth and acid-tongued capos to turn every political argument into some kind of verbal tribal and ethnic combat, in which they unleash most venomous epithets on all others they consider their 'enemies'.

I would not hesitate to add if that behavior of these imprudent Political desperadoes in the Akufo-Addo camp does not stop soon enough, a much more explosive situation could erupt, despite what the Akyem Linguist is, now, claiming here.

The two Traditional leaders may be brothers but one is surely a senior to the other. In fact, one is a King and the other is not. If that is what irks some of the Akyem Mafia who have been brewing trouble all over the place, it behooves the Okyehene to lead the efforts to call them to order and calm things down by stipulating that he proudly acknowledges his status in relation to the Otumfuor and bears him no grudges.

For all we know, the Otumfuor has never said a word against the Okyehene, and the Okyehene has never said anything bad about the King of Ashanti Kingdom. Therefore, as some ordinary Akyem folks, down the ladder, are creating unnecessary volatile environment around Akufo-Addo's Presidential dream, and trying to bang the heads of the Otumfuor and his 'younger' brother against each other's, the Okyehene ought to call his subjects to order, just as I believe the Otumfuor would do to his, too.

In the meantime, from the political angle, if this proxy feud between Ashantis and Akyems keep escalating around the Akufo-Addo Mafia and the Kufuor faction of the NPP, Akufo-Addo could call his third quest for the Presidency his very last and crowning failure.

I think the national house of chiefs should set up a reconciliation committee that will spell out the protocols to be followed when the tribes with hidden animosities from the primitive past need to co-mingle at functions in the future.

Anyone who actually reads about Ashanti history will discover that the death of Asantehene Osei Tutu although tragic and sad was in fact avoidable. King Osei Tutu, was a courageous and brave Monarch. The Asante National Army led by him actually defeated the Akyem Army in a Battle and their Warriors fled across the River Pra. It is important to note that the 'River Pra' was also known as the 'Forbidden River' and for various reasons it was not advisable for King Osei Tutu to attempt to cross the 'Forbidden River' to pursue chasing the Akyem Warriors in search of controlling more territory. Asantehene Osei Tutu, was ambushed by Akyem Warriors hiding in the bushes and shot by their Snipers. It is important to note that Akyem Warriors were specialists in ambushing their opponents and killing them with sniper fire. It is a sad fact that Asantehene Osei Tutu, would probably have reigned for more years if he had not chased the fleeing Akyem Warriors across the River Pra (the 'Forbidden River'). This sad event took place 299 years ago in the year of 1717. Which should keep this historical incident in perspective. This incident happened nearly 300 years ago.
Asantehene Osei Tutu, as well as being a courageous and brave Monarch was also a dynamic Leader who transformed the economy of the Ashanti Kingdom. His main legacy today is the City of Kumasi. Prior to his reign (1701-1717), Kumasi, was a small sized Town. However, during his reign he tripled the size of Kumasi and transformed it into the City it is today.

These continues accusations, insults and lambasting of the ASANTEHENE will never help Nana Addo become president. We all have a deep repugnance to how the economy and national afairs are been managed under the watch of the Mahama led administration but there is more to do on Nana Addo with the limited time available. We must work to earn everyone's(majority) vote including the ASANTEHENE. All hands must be on deck to be able to win the battle ahead. It is not mandatory and it wouldn't be right for the Great King to be a pro NPP King. Let us respect what God has made him, what he represents and cherish him and leave his name out of the dirty politics we do in this country.
