This is supposed to be a prestigious school, yet the lives of students and staff have been endangered by a clear lack of political will to ensure that its boundaries are protected and secured.

Who in his right mind would consider approaching the Ghana police to solve a problem? The very fact that the Achimota Police station is within the very compound of the Achimota school itself and that they have not been able to do anything about the several on-going ordeals of that school should tell you that the Ghana Police have lost their focus and purpose.

The Achimota school itself has over the years been managed by a series of goons and idiots who I suspect have been surreptitiously involved in some of the misdeeds such as the seemingly free-for-all encroachment of the schools lands.

Many prominent personalities including several heads of state of Ghana were students of that school and this alone tells me that somehow Achimota school produces incompetent citizens whose education have not helped this country.

The Achimota Forest has long been seen as a den for criminals to hide and organize themselves. It should have been under the keen eyes of the Security Agencies all the time.

The setting is not unique globally. In most countries, even among Advanced Nations, like the USA, such preserved enclaves of Forest in Metro areas have been noted to be used by criminals of all kinds. So, folks must not let their guards down when they come close to those areas.

The idyllic scenes of islands of forests with Cities, most of which we may consider as National Parks, must not fool everyone as being safe. They are not necessarily safe at all.

I remember how similar locations in Maryland, USA, where I used to live became havens for drug-related criminals who would rob and kill to support their dangerous habits.

Our Security Agencies must be pushed to pay better and closer attention to protect lives entering the Achimota Forest and similar locations around the Country. We may not have enough Funds to raise a special Police Force like the Park Rangers in the USA. But we could empower the Forest Rangers and their Guards to include the task of protecting Citizens in the Forests and Parks.
