There was near pandemonium and confusion at the Annual Global African Investment Forum held in Westminster, Central London after a heated exchange between Ghana’s President John Mahama and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo degenerated into open insults.This was due to General Obasanjo openly accusing the Ghanaian president and his government of blackmailing and collecting bribes from Nigerian businessmen in Ghana, buying numerous properties in Nigeria and South Africa and financially contributing 12 million dollars to Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign last year. This infuriated President Mahama who lost his temper and pointing his finger, called General Obasanjo an ” idiot” and a “silly buffoon”.It took other ministers present as well as Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to calm tempers and usher President Mahama to a nearby room. The forum, which takes place from 1st to 3rd December is attended by African Heads of States, Ministers, Private equity firms and investors to discuss opportunities for investment and development in African Economies.

The EC chairperson can tell this to the marines, I am not convinced, the EC under her leadership, has no good intentions to give Ghanaians a level playing field in year's end national elections.
On her assumption of office, everything she has said, every step along the way, has pointed to a direction which leads to the heartland of the Ndc and President Mahama.
The EC claims it does not have the money to engage in a new Voters Register, which the Commission have come out to admit, is palpably bloated.
The EC response to the NPPaccusation that the Voters Register is not credible for any fair elections, was for it to assemble a Committee to advise it on the issue. Strangely, the EC have said nothing about the report of its own appointed committee. It is however, now public knowledge, the Committee recommended Validation of persons on the current Voters Register to bring it to respectability and acceptability.
The EC may have induced members of its committee, how sad, to disavow the contents of its final report. And this was led by a Bishop of a Christian church! Suddenly, the word Validation has become a ghastly word, feared by the EC. And it's hidden partner, who have a big stake in the elections.
It is worrying, the EC is dancing around a subject of great value, which has a potential to disrupt everything that we hope for in this land.
Meanwhile, the EC has found time to rebrand and have come out with a logo, which it did not own up, until President Mahama, gave the all clear. The EC have also come up with a forty year development plan, In the heat of an election year! Collectively, we seem to be aware of the sequel to this hide and seek game, being played to the whole nation. And yet, hired hands are preaching peace, day in a day out. Is this not a case of putting the cart before the horse?
What is desirable is for the EC to demonstrate by deed, the concrete steps it has in place for an even playing field, for all the parties. Is this too much a burden for an impartial State Institution?

The constitution needs a lot of amendments to ensure that the EC is appointed by representatives of major political parties and not just the President. Ghana is retrogressing quickly under Mahama.
