This is especially prevallent in the coastal areas but Accra is worse followed by Cape Coast. In Cape Coast years back Rawlings had the nerve to indirectly insult them. When he saw how people had defecated openly at the beaches he told them "even cats are sensible enough to cover their feces after the act." This was taken in bad taste causing chiefs to lambast him. However, during the revolution of 1979, this same Rawlings brutalized people with two or more toilets in their house calling it luxury. The trouble we brewed last time we are drinking it this time.

If the habit of defecating in public places does not stop immediately, no tourist will come to Ghana in the future. The practice is alarming and disgraceful to Ghanaians. The problem does not stem only from people's attitude, but also the government has failed to build enough public toilets. The few that are built are not maintained daily resulting in them giving out obnoxious smell and sprawling shit all over the place.

All we know to do is talk loud, lie about everything, but stink and filthy. Arrive in Ghana and you are first greeted by the mosquitoes on the tarmac. Get to immigration the heat and the stench. By thr time you get to customs the smell has overpowered you. Ghanaians stink but think they know if all. They open their mouths to talk and the odour from lack of flossing. Get to town and see the open, drinking sewers, alongside the burning garbage. What a backward people, with little knowledge of cleaning and hygiene. The women spent the day bleaching and the men drinking in hard in the evenings. This country I'd a disgrace to the human race. Filthy, smelly country.

But with colonial mentalities, successive governments are still building "bomber latrines", in modern day Ghana and charging for its use. Bono of U2 fame says Ghana is the only country in the world where you pay to go to toilet.

The wrong approach is being adopted the UNICEF country director is very diplomatic because 500years is too short if we continue building public toilets when may be unaffordable to the people
