Could it be they smoked some 'ganja' as appetizer? It is also possible the soup contained either some inedible herbs or mushrooms. I guess they are not 'mad' but only 'high'; it will wear off with time.
It was probably some poisonous mushroom in their ingredients. Dang!

A lot of stufff from the bush, especially leaves and some mushroom types have very stong hallucinatory effect, that cause people to trip and feel 'high', just like ganja.

The authorities should check for the chemicals found in the cassava used for the fufu.Cyanide could be he source. It can have negative devastating effects

Either mushroom or cassava. After three years on the ground, cassava automatically becames poisonous and if eating can die. Hot pepper can also course that.
