Let the LMVC not kid themselves because it is not as straight forward as they imagine because we are all waiting to see how the names of the dead will be legally identified and removed from the register. WhPerhaps the supreme court will have to come back and tell us who proves who is dead? As for thje NHIS card holders, the LMVC and their masters in the NPP should not be surprised or make any noise if it turns out that they have more of such voters in the register that all the other parties. I believe God's hand is at work, and they wuld have shot themselves in the foot. If they tickle themsleves and think this will reduce votes in the Volta Region, they will be laughing at the wrong side of their muoths. In any case, the people can always re-register with 2 persons authenticaticating their nationalities. So what is the big deal? Waste of national resources. Any party worth its sort, and bidding to win political power, would be more than prepared to get its people who registered with the NHIS to foe re-registration. I know that the NDC is willing and financially capable to do so. Let no one underestimate the resolve, resourcefulness and willpower of the NDC to scale over any hurdle to achieve electoral success. As for the Supreme Court and their vague pronuouncements, time will surely prove their insensitivity to the peace and stability of the state, and for that matter, the national interest .

We have been waiting for the Supreme Court to rule that the National Health Insurance Scheme should be scrapped and all Ghanaians should pay cash whenever they attend the hospital and also the scheme should refund the premium members paid this year. In the absence of that it means that the NHIS card is a legal document in this country, thus ruling that the card should not be used for people to register as voters and those who used it to register should have their names expunged from voter register represents an absurdity, intellectual absurdity. When are the intellectuals in this country going to act reasonably.

If EC rather says they will clean it alone, how can we be sure that those names are removed from the register?The only way the names of the dead and those who registered with NHIS card can be removed is everyone going to register again.

How can any court give such a ruling without thinking of the consequenses of their pronoucement? We must remember that the stupid ruling of the constitutional court in Cote D'Ivoire in support of Gbagbo after the EC had declared him loser, led to the war in that country. Ghana has not got a system that identifies dead people or report deaths. Why then can the EC be ordered to remove dead names from the register immediately? How will they do that? Does it make sense? What we will have is for political parties to comb their strongholds and write names of people WHO do not belong to their party, some of whom may have travelled, claim them to be dead, and then insist on them being deleted. Already we have heard of people going round with copies of the register and marking opponents, mostly of certain ethnicity and religion as being dead, and if the highest court of the land can add more fire to the underlying burning flame, then God save Ghana. As for the NHIS card, my question to the learnered Justices is that, how different is that from driving lincence? What cards do we have for proof of nationality in Ghana apart from passports which majority of the people, especially those in the rural areas do not have? Why will these judges not consider the national interest in taking decisions? Hmmmm....let them remenber that when the consequences of their action dawns on us, we shall all, I mean all, be consumed by it. A look at what is happening in the limited registration should be a sign of what is looming. The law is made for people and not the other way round so our judgements should take everything into consideration, particularly the preservation of national cohesion, peace and stability. As for those who are happy about this ruling, let them not come back and say we told them so. By the way, let the EC aggregate the number of people who restered with the NHIS cards region by region and make it public so that no one cries foul. This will enable the paries help get such people to avail themselves for re-registration. I hope the supreme court will help source funds for this extra expenditure since they care less about the financial implications and difficulties of the sta

1. A declaration that upon a true and proper interpretation of Article 45(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, 1992 (hereinafter, the Constitution) the mandate of the Electoral Commission of Ghana to compile the register of voters implies a duty to compile, fair and transparent register.

2. A DECLARATION THAT THE 2012 VOTERS REGISTER WHICH CONTAINS NAMES OF PERSONS WHO HAVE NOT ESTABLISHED QUALIFICATION TO BE REGISTERED IS INCONSISTENT WITH ARTICLE 42 AND 45 (a) AND THEREFORE UNCONSTITUTIONAL, NULL, VOID AND OF NO EFFECT.

3.An order setting aside the 2012 voters register and compeliling the EC to compile FRESH VOTERS REGISTER before any new public election or referendum is conducted in this country.

If this is all was really needed, then the LMVCA wasted our time in demanding for the total recreation of the Voters Register, and the cleansing would have long been finished by now.

If this is all was really needed, then the LMVCA wasted our time in demanding for the total recreation of the Voters Register, and the cleansing would have long been finished by now.

Why did the SC take so long in coming down with this final decision on the fate of the Register? People were fighting one another over this issue for so long, while all it had to take was a decision like this from the SC.

Now that the dust is settled on what the EC must do, we should expect the EC to embrace all representatives of the various Parties to closely monitor the Cleansing process so that no one would have any cause to fault the Register again in the Elections.

Akufo-Addo would have half of his complaints resolved with the successful completion of the cleansing. And he would not make any entity the scapegoat for his own mediocrity and failures.

It must be good news that LMVCA has accepted the ruling of the SC asking the EC to cleanse the voters register instead of compiling a new one. Cleansing the voters register rather than compiling a new one is what the EC has long indicated they would be doing with collaboration from all the stakeholders including the political parties and civil society. The SC has therefore endorsed the EC's plan.
The procedure for removing an illegitimate name in the register is clearly marked out in the electoral law. For instance if LMVCA knows someone who is a minor or deceased or a foreigner whose name is in the register, they must produce accurate particulars of this to a magistrate court in the area and if the claim cannot be challenged, the court will make an order for the name to be expunged. As for those who had registered using the NHIA card, it is up to the EC to reprocess them: they will be re-registered if they are able to establish that they are indeed Ghanaians otherwise their names will be expunged.

It will be OVERRUN. If there's an incomplete information in the register, the thing to do is to ask for additional information or ID, not to delete names. It is the duty of the electoral coomission to encourage people to vote and it should reflect in encouragement actions not discouragement actions
