How do you go and borrow money for 10.75% (US dollar) and give it to someone to lend it to you at over 20% (GHC)? In effect you are paying over 30%! Assuming stable exchange rates, Ghana will be paying additional interest of at least $50 million a year on this transaction. It really is reckless. The government is claiming that the funds were “idle”. Really? What does that mean? Why do you borrow funds and pay interest on it if you do not have use for them at the moment? It is clear that the GIIF does not have a portfolio of projects ready to invest in and it is weird to allocate a whopping sum of $250 million to them at this time. Is the Minister aware that the country owes N-Gas some $100 million? What about other contractors who are owed money by the government? How can you owe so much, have so much to do and yet claim to have “idle” borrowed funds? The allocation of such an amount to a private bank also has major macroeconomic consequences for a relatively small economy like Ghana. It increases the deposits of the banking system and ultimately the money supply. It has inflationary and exchange rate depreciation consequences and would make it more difficult for the government to meet its inflation target. I am surprised that the government is oblivious of these consequences. The Funds should stay at the Bank of Ghana. After all the Bank of Ghana, on its own or through its external fund managers of the caliber of internationally reputable banks like UBS, JP Morgan, Citibank, Merrill Lynch etc. can undertake whatever investment of the country’s foreign exchange that the government would like it to undertake

Nana must be able to absolve himself from these accusations leveled against him by no other person than his national party chairman, Paul Afoko. This clearly is an allegation of fraud and violence.
Besides, we read regularly in the newspapers about suspension of key NPP leaders, violence in the camp of NPP: Chairman Wontumi slapping an MP, Assin Fosu MP supporting Chairman Wontumi for the latter's criminal action, thugs attacking a fellow NPP member at a radio station because he was criticizing a fellow NPP member, etc.
Question: If Nana cannot hold NPP together, can he hold Ghana together if elected president of Ghana?
To tell you the truth, NPP is not doing itself any good by all these scandals. Ghanaians are crying for a change of government but I am gradually becoming fortified in my conviction that NPP is not ready to govern. Security takes precedence of economic well being, and if NPP cannot be trusted to hold the nation together, then they should forget about winning the coming elections. And when you do not win, please do not hold the nation to ransom. Don't unleash mayhem on Ghanaians, please

Arthur K in concluding his piece said something to the effect that, this whole mess was an unfortunate saga. For that he is correct, in that, the issues and the picture Paul Awentami Afoko sought to portray about Akufo Addo and the NPP party has been exposed and Paul Afoko's credibility is now out of the door. And that is very, very, very unfortunate most especially when the likes of this same Arthur K were urging him on and putting out all sorts of concocted stories about the NPP and Akufo Addo, not backed by any facts to support such wild stories and imagination, which rather interestingly, Arthur K is still doing, even in this piece.
He talks about first some allegations of an illegal meeting that illegally authorized Blay and Abakwah to reactivate a dormant NPP account, not a Blay account, not an Abankwah account, not an Akufo Addo account, but a dormant NPP account, established with the full force and power granted the NPP party to operate such an account and proceeds to say, that meeting allegedly is illegal and the authorization by the party to reactivate that account is illegal and so by extrapolation, Akufo Addo lacks credibility on the corruption and integrity front. The sheer absurdity of such logic on the face of it can be described as pedestrian at best and very childish at worst, coming from such a grown man. And Arthur K finds nothing wrong with Afoko deciding to change signatories to the accounts of the NPP party, not Afoko's brother's account he might have opened for him, but the NPP party's account without recourse to the party?
Then he raises another point of his aptly described unfortunate unfolding saga and talks about whether the Flagbearer of the NPP can unite the party, after a series of interventions aimed at reconciliation and even drags the Asantehene's persona into the discourse. The fact that the main supposed protagonist in the so called created factions and blocs in the NPP party is very much in the thick of things involving the Flagbearer's campaign, has created a situation where the likes of Afoko, Crabbe and Co. have been exposed as not being politically astute and comedians at best and not ready to unite with the NPP party and that, nobody can intervene, since the Constitution of this country provides for freedom of association and that choice is solely Afoko's. The Flagbearer cannot force Afoko if Afoko does not want to unite with the NPP party.
And then third and finally, the insufferable Arthur K goes on to talk about an alleged conspiracy by some to nullify the candidacy of Afoko and whether Akufo Addo will follow our constitution if elected.
If this is not the most unfortunate statement in this unfortunate unfolding saga involving the likes of Arthur K, and Afoko in particular, who is now being exposed and continually being discredited, then one doesn't know just what it is. It was based on Akufo Addo and the NPP's adherence to their constitution, that is why when members of the party such as Perry Okudzeto were summarily dismissed by Paul Afoko, upon assuming the Chairmanship of the NPP party, the committees of the party of which the Flagbearer is a member, followed the constitution to reinstate him. I don't think such a party and it's Flagbearer would not follow the constitution in the discharge of their mandate.
Paul Afoko came to the office of the Chairman of the NPP party thinking it was his personal fiefdom and kingdom where autocracy ruled, but the NPP party is a very democratic institution not given to impunity, autocracy and indiscipline is he is beginning to learn and it is important he focusses his full attention and subject himself to this learning curve, because impunity and autocracy has no place in the NPP party. The party structures and the constitution will check you and that is how it is supposed to be.
Akufo Addo for the information of Arthur K is the next President of the Republic of Ghana.
