This mathematics which can even be done by a BECE candidate who cannot write his final exams without questions leaks, and could not be done by President Mahama nor Seth Terkper as they want us to believe, will reveal to us how deliberately corrupt and financially reckless they are as far as the management of our economy is concerned. The Eurobond attracts an interest of 10.75% to be paid by the government of Ghana, $250m out of it is illegally deposited in UBA, a private bank. The bank, which is UBA in turn, decides to buy GHS 950 million of government Treasury bills at a rate of 24% (using the 1-year note); the bank would have made a hefty GHS 233 (USD 61) million profit in nominal terms just by loaning this same money to the government. Friends in the media, if this is not a 419 scam visited on unsuspecting Ghanaians by President Mahama, then what else is it? – Meanwhile, this is a President who is walking freely on the streets of London shamelessly mocking Ghanaians that he has never taken bribe, my goodness!!! Note therefore, that Government is paying 10.75% 24% which is 34.75% interest on the money he borrowed from the capital market. Government is paying 24% interest on his own money to a private firm. Is this sheer wickedness, foolishness, witchcraft or what? We cannot help, but agree with Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings when she posited few days ago and I quote, “If you borrow money at a high interest rate to lend it to another at a low interest rate then borrow your own money back from them at a high interest rate, you are either not wise, a thief or both. No wonder their campaign message of “vote for us so they don’t jail us, it’s time to save Ghana from this criminality”. This is a very interesting argument. Is this a bad decision or a case of corruption? I was in UK when I heard that the NPP majority in Parliament has approved $30,000,000 security face-lift of H.E J.A Kufour's residence. Then again there seem to have been the guaranteeing of some $30,000,000 loan to Ashanteman Trust by the Government of the day. Governments make decisions which are difficult to understand but are not deemed corruption. Did UBA actually buy these Treasury Bills and would Bank of Ghana among its numerous other transactions have bought Treasury Bills with this money, i.e. Ghana trading with itself? Are these sums what could have been done with loose money in one's pocket? It is always considered unwise to use a Credit Card or apply for loan when you have some cash balance in your account. How many individuals operate on zero bank balance whilst paying mortgage on their houses or their car loans? Will Ghanaians not be happy to know whether the money that went to UBA ended up in a private individual's account or NDC functionaries account? Alhaji Bawumia will have this information. How much does Alhaji Bawumia and Saint Ghfuo make daily on all cash they have in Bank and under their mattresses? I remember in 1993 getting £10,000 loan from my Bank and changing my mind later, I did not have immediate plans as to what to do with it. I was nonetheless paying interest on this loan. When months later, the decision came as to what to do with it, it doubled within a year and the loan was paid off. The Honorable Minister said he has done nothing wrong, perhaps he did not realize that he should have traded with it against himself and then again and again. I am no apologist but I am seeing the figures but I am not understanding the arguments. Simply put, was there no other money in mother Ghana's account that could be used for this inside trading the experts are proposing? And why did the money got transferred to UBA? If the Government is not telling us, please tell us their flimsy excuse and please leave this inside trading analogy alone, please!

If you have visited the British Museum or V&A Museum you will see in the collections precious gold objects that were looted from the Palace of the Asantehene in 1874 and 1896. Also, gold, diamonds and other valuable objects from other parts of the World (including other parts of the World). For example, the famous Benin Bronzes that were looted from the Palace of the 'Oba' in 1897. The wealth of Britain has been built through Slavery, Piracy, Wars & Colonialism. The British Empire like other Empires existed for pure economic reasons and nothing else.

Corruption have virtually being institutionalized as a culture because the average Ghanaian and for that matter African have a funny mentality.Material and money acquisition in excess mainly through theft is glorified as intelligence or wisdom.The difference between the west and Africa is that people spend time thinking about innovative ways to develop projects and programs and not thinking about how they can outsmart or exploit the system to loot public funds.Africa and for that matter Ghana is faced with tipple edge problem of;1.discouraging innovative or inventive thinking that promotes socioeconomic development and wealth generation.2encouraging pilfering of public funds by lazy idle hands generally glorified as the smart ones in public institutions.3.deliberately institutionalizing a corruption mechanism or machinery with knowledge of high public office holders and government functionaries that look out for,victimize and persecute discerning anti-corruption voices opposed to the canker in public institutions.It is not a colonial mentality.It is sheer lack of nationalism and patriotism.It is negative,destructive and retrogressive thinking by a people who don't see the development of Country and Continent as a duty in line with Pan-Africanist thinking of our great founding fathers.Total the amount of money from the various financial malfeasance and scandalous deals exposed and see the number of schools or hospitals that could come from such huge amounts looted.These are just even the few ones known to the public with some still being exposed.I get very sad as a patriotic citizen when i wake up to the news that a high profile public officer put in position of responsibility can spend as much as $170,000 on a gate in a private residence.It is happening in the midst of extreme poverty among the masses to the extent that some people contributing to tax are starving and sick as they can neither afford food or medications.When social intervention programs like the NHIS which draws its pool from public tax is collapsing ,it is because of some of these heartless looting and exploitation.Worse of it is the fact that a culture of fear and silence have been created with knowledge of powers that be including high public officials and government functionaries who expeditiously and radically stamp out anti-corruption voices in public institutions to keep the corruption canker blossoming.In Ghana today if you dare question why drugs or surgical procedures covered by insurance are charged in a public health facility,the next time you are sacked with a letter signed by no mean a person but the Director General of Ghana Health Service.If an illegality like denying a patient blood transfusion and killing her can have a doctor fraudulently implicated with a mental illness and sacked to cover the rot in a public health facility,then we have a crisis at hand.More astonishing is the fact that the system will frustrate and deny the victim of corruption against corruption simply because high profile public officers with links to the corridors of power are involved.You can't blame the youth of Ghana today who will see you as a fool if you don't develop the skill and mastery of looting public funds in aggressively pursuing wealth.It is simply because highly respected people in key position of responsibility who should uphold high moral standards are deeply involved and recruiting young ones into the corruption machinery in public institutions.The fake around as a Pius and God fearing running to Churches and donating huge sums stolen from public coffers.In early days of post-colonial Ghana patriotism and hard work dedicated to development was preached.In contemporary Ghana it appears theft is the way to go at least judging from where i stand.A casual observation will reveal the lazy,idle hands in public institutions are usually the wealthy ones because they have mastered the act of solo theft or organized looting in public institutions.We grinding slowly in our socioeconomic progress because we still have some committed hard working people in our public institutions who put nation first before pocket.Until we develop a mentality that wealth is best enjoyed through hard work and innovative thinking,the problem of endemic corruption in public institutions will be a herculean task to confront.Until there is the political commitment and will to introduce stern anti-graft measures and rigorously enforce same without fear or favour,fighting corruption particularly in public institutions will certainly be a wild goose chase.A measure of how bad the situation is the incredible level to which people opposed to the cancerous act are victimized,persecuted,demonized and ostracized in public institutions and society in general who venture speaking against it.A huge aberration is the fact that the AG Department is quick to defend or suppress cases in court in overt corruption cases involving high profile public officers instead of investigating reported cases of corruption and establishing its merit.Invariably crass corruption with impunity under the supervision of corrupt leadership in public institutions will continue unabated as it appears to be the norm rather than the rule with the AG sitting aloof or ready to provide a codon around corrupt top public officials linked to the corridors of power.
