How do you go and borrow money for 10.75% (US dollar) and give it to someone to lend it to you at over 20% (GHC)? In effect you are paying over 30%! Assuming stable exchange rates, Ghana will be paying additional interest of at least $50 million a year on this transaction. It really is reckless. The government is claiming that the funds were “idle”. Really? What does that mean? Why do you borrow funds and pay interest on it if you do not have use for them at the moment? It is clear that the GIIF does not have a portfolio of projects ready to invest in and it is weird to allocate a whopping sum of $250 million to them at this time. Is the Minister aware that the country owes N-Gas some $100 million? What about other contractors who are owed money by the government? How can you owe so much, have so much to do and yet claim to have “idle” borrowed funds? The allocation of such an amount to a private bank also has major macroeconomic consequences for a relatively small economy like Ghana. It increases the deposits of the banking system and ultimately the money supply. It has inflationary and exchange rate depreciation consequences and would make it more difficult for the government to meet its inflation target. I am surprised that the government is oblivious of these consequences. The Funds should stay at the Bank of Ghana. After all the Bank of Ghana, on its own or through its external fund managers of the caliber of internationally reputable banks like UBS, JP Morgan, Citibank, Merrill Lynch etc. can undertake whatever investment of the country’s foreign exchange that the government would like it to undertake

It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution

There is no single day passing whereby you wouldn't hear thievery, murder and or destruction of viable property including misappropriation of funds leading to create loot and share.
It is so sad but I think we must put our feet down to drive these NDC evil doers out of the scene so that we can have some quiet and peace when we have a man with Ghana at heart to lead us as president.
If not, Ghana will continue to bleed by the nose even as we have remedy to combat all these criminality by NDC thieves.

How can you recommend an amount when you do not know what this is meant for? There is no way a committee can approve a budget without knowing the details of that budget. If your son in school comes to tell you father I need 3,000 Ghana cedis for school, will you just give him the money without first find out what goes into the 3,000? Please answer me. The committee should be held accountable more than the ministry that submitted that budget. I am inclined to believe that the budget was recommended because some things changed hands as was once commented on by a popular Professor and Parliament made noise that the Prof will be dragged before Parliament and till now nothing has happened. Please sit up and do detailed job and help mother Ghana.
