DR BAWUMIA ,THE ECONOMIC PROPHET, ON THE $250 MILLION NDC TOOK OUT OF THE $1BILLION EUROBOND FROM BOG AND DEPOSITED FOOLISHLY & NONSENSICALLY AT THE UNITED BANK OF AFRICA (UBA)--------READ BELOW------ Beyond the issue of legality, there is the issue of prudence in the management of Ghana’s resources. How do you go and borrow money for 10.75% (US dollar) and give it to someone to lend it to you at over 20% (GHC)? In effect you are paying over 30%! Assuming stable exchange rates, Ghana will be paying additional interest of at least $50 million a year on this transaction. It really is reckless. The government is claiming that the funds were “idle”. Really? What does that mean? Why do you borrow funds and pay interest on it if you do not have use for them at the moment? It is clear that the GIIF does not have a portfolio of projects ready to invest in and it is weird to allocate a whopping sum of $250 million to them at this time. Is the Minister aware that the country owes N-Gas some $100 million? What about other contractors who are owed money by the government? How can you owe so much, have so much to do and yet claim to have “idle” borrowed funds? The allocation of such an amount to a private bank also has major macroeconomic consequences for a relatively small economy like Ghana. It increases the deposits of the banking system and ultimately the money supply. It has inflationary and exchange rate depreciation consequences and would make it more difficult for the government to meet its inflation target. I am surprised that the government is oblivious of these consequences. The Funds should stay at the Bank of Ghana. After all the Bank of Ghana, on its own or through its external fund managers of the caliber of internationally reputable banks like UBS, JP Morgan, Citibank, Merrill Lynch etc. can undertake whatever investment of the country’s foreign exchange that the government would like it to undertake

These are the original Akuapem people before the Akwamu wars which brought the people of Akyem (present day Akropong). It was warlord title given to the original Nsadiesa (Awukugua) and Gyedu Nkansa (Larteh). These two Kings asked the Akyems to come and helped them against the Akwamu and later allowed the Akyem (Present day Akropong) to stay!

Nifa: Towns after Akropong going north towards Koforidua (Abiriw, Dawu, Awukugua, Adukrom, Apirede, Aseseeso, etc)

Benkum: Towns after Akropong going towards Accra before Aburi (Aburi are remnants of Akwamu who defected after they were defeated so they got the Adonten title)
Larteh (Head of Benkum), Mamfe, Abotakyi, Mampong, Tutu, Ahwerease, Obosomasi

According to the supreme court when the names are deleted they should be given the chance to register again lawfully, that is using a lawful identification. Now which of the three groups could register again? the minors or the dead people on the register. I remember when Sir Osei Agyeman Prempeh died, some schools in some parts of Ashanti region were forced to go on forced vacation because of fear of that archaic tradition of burying the Asantehene of human head.

There were three daughters and they all wanted to get married but they couldn't afford it and neither could there parents. So the parents said "We will give you all a joint wedding and then you will all be able to get married". So they got married and all three daughters then said "I want a honeymoon but we cant afford it". The parents couldn't afford it either so they deiced they would have the honeymoon at their parents house. So on there honeymoon night their mother woke up and deiced to go downstairs and get a drink. On the way down she heard the first daughter screaming but she juts ignored it. When she reached the second daughters bedroom she could hear laughing and just ignored it. When she reached the third daughters room she could hear nothing and deiced 2 ignore it. The next morning at the breakfast table she said to the first daughter "Why were you screaming?". And the daughter replied "Well mother you told me 2 scream when something hurt." Then the mother said to the second daughter "Why were you laughing last night?" and the daughter replied "Mother you told me to laugh when something tickled". Then the mother said to the last daughter "Why didn't I hear anything coming from your room last night?" and the daughter replied "Well mother you told me never to talk with my mouth full".

While the Public complies with the demands of the Traditional authorities, no individual must be quietly sacrificed by the same authorities as in the old, uncivilized days, to serve as aids to the deceased Chief in his afterlife.

That aspect of the Akan culture must never again be practiced anywhere in the country. Often, it would be in those quiet days of mourning, when the Royals are supposed to be quietly grieving, that the odious crime is committed.

In not too distant past, a curfew would be informally imposed on the locality or area where the Chief hailed from, and anyone who dared breach it could be kidnapped and sacrificed. And his or her family was barred to even question or notify the Traditional authority of the whereabouts of such a missing person.

Today, our era has evolved to render such a practice completely unnecessary and criminal. And we ought to be mindful of that in such time of bereavement of a Chief.

May the deceased Chief rest in Peace among his ancestors, so that the living would continue to enjoy similar Peace as well!

Guans may have stopped the practice somewhere along the historical trajectory. But the fact remains that all Akans shared the practice with no exceptions.

The widespread belief is that the Colonial masters imposed on Akans the restriction to abandon that practice. But many believe some Royalties in the Akan areas adhered to that criminal behavior but did so under deeper secrecy. The long time of waiting to publicly announce the death of a Chief has been associated with the period of searching for a victim for that abhorrent ritual by the bereaved Royalty.

I would be very proud of the Akuapem-Guan Royalties, if the waiting truly had nothing to do with that old ritual but only for adequate preparation for burying the Chief in a modern, decent way.
