Does Henry Lartey care for the ordinary Ghanaian whose only request to the EC, is to ensure equity and fairness? What advantage will the NPP gain, if the EC goes ahead and delete names of those who registered with NHIS cards. As the Supreme Court decided on? The EC is a state institution, it must remain, a state institution and not an arm of the party in government. Unfortunately, the Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, has done everything in the books, to show even the naive in politics, where her sentiments belong.

The NPP is not being mischievous in the least but rather it is the EC which has continously exhibited high handedness and a very belligerent and intransigent position on doing the right thing even when ordered by the highest court of the land.
The issue of the NHIS cards and its eligibility in satisfying voter registration requirements has been tackled by the Supreme Court twice. In the first ruling, the Supreme Court said the NHIS cards did not confer citizenship rights since the objective of the NHIA in providing and addressing the healthcare needs was indiscriminatory.
In that ruling, the expectation was the EC was going to take the steps to expunge the names of such voters of the electoral roll and maybe during this limited registration exercise, provide an opportunity for such voters to re-register again. This did not happen.
The matter went to the Supreme Court the second time and in their deliberations, the EC was asked specifically if it had the data on voters who registered with the NHIS cards. Let's make that point again. The Supreme Court asked the EC if they had the data of voters who registered with the NHIS cards and the EC answered in the affirmative. The Supreme Court in giving it's ruling and orders therefore instructed the EC, to delete the names based on the data the EC told the Court it had, of those voters who registered with the NHIS cards and re-register them again, so as not to disenfranchised these voters. The Supreme Court was very clear and unambiguous in its position and the EC was also very clear in its position it had that data. So for anybody to turn around around and accuse the NPP of being mischievous is not supported by the facts, the ruling and the orders of the Court, when the EC turns around and says, it is not going to delete those names as ordered by the Court and they believe, those voters should remain on the register. That is not NPP being mischievous.
It is rather the EC acting with impunity. It is rather the EC acting disrespectfully of the Supreme Court. It is rather the EC flouting the orders of the Supreme Court. It is rather the EC acting in total disregard on the orders of the Supreme Court, and there is no way Ghanaian will support an Electoral Commission, it's Chairman or assigns to collectively disrespect the orders of the Supreme Court, the EC will not get that support from right thinking and well meaning members of our Ghanaian society. The EC confirmed to the Supreme Court it had that data, it should delete those names and allow those voters to re-register so as not to disenfranchise them.
In the case of minors and the dead, the fact that these categories of voters should even exist in the register shows a monumental lack of robust systems and processes which almost 60 years after independence, should not be a major issue of concern but unfortunately it is. The deletion of such category of voters should be the easiest for any serious electoral commission with an iota of credibility.

After all the arguments put forth by those of you who think people from neighboring countries around Ghana are bused in to vote but are not Ghanaians do have voter rights under the current Identification system where there is no proof of citizenship. So why not insist that applicants prove citizenship of their parents first? With citizenhip of parents out of the way applicants can then proceed to prove tbeir own citizenship. People in the Diaspora wish to have a rule carved out for them which says that an offspring who was not born in Ghana, has not stepped foot in Ghana is a Ghanaian by parent. But guess what Catapult? 90 percent of Ghana's population cannot prove birth or citizenship of their parents and thus makes their own births suspect in a Ghana where any and all documents can be obtained with the right money. Have people not been able to acquire Ghanaian passports even as foreigners? Are other nationalities living in Ghana not obtained Ghanaian driver's license? And if people can obtain Ghanaian passports even as foreigners during the Kufour NPP administration what is to stop them from becoming voters in Ghana?

For as long as politics in Ghana is about access to the national coffers and how rich polititions can get when they are in the majority no institutions of government can be free and safe from political and tribal influences; EC is not the problem but tribalism and the power we give the educated but ignorant people in Ghana and to government.

The Supreme Court has tasked the EC to, per their mandate, ensure the credibility of the voters register and by extension, the elections and if what you propose in your first paragraph is what will do it, then by all means, in the interest of the peace and stability and the socioeconomic development and wellbeing of every Ghanaian, then let's go for it.
The other tangential issues you raise can be addressed in another forum but the issue at hand is, minors, the deceased found on the register, and those who registered with NHIS cards, but are not necessarily ineligible to be on the register.
The argument being made by some if I am not mistaken is the presumption, those who registered with the NHIS cards are all ineligible to be registered.
Unless, somebody somewhere conclusively believe all those persons are ineligible, it is curious the resistance to delete such names as ordered by the court with an opportunity for the re-registration of such persons so affected, and thereby not disenfranchising them in exercising their fundamental and constitutional human right to vote in a democracy, and satisfying the requirements of the constitution imposed on the EC to ensure a reasonably accurate and credible voters register, in the absence of any law as captured in the CI 91 for the conduct of public elections.
So the question is for those resisting the orders of the Supreme Court, is it their position all those who registered with the NHIS cards are eligible and thus, the current voters register as compiled is reasonably accurate and credible, given the fact that the eligibility of the card has been outlawed by the SC as unconstitutional, in the 2014 case, where the Court said that card did not satisfy the strict eligibility requirements to be registered to vote, and it is trite knowledge, issuance of the cards to persons within the jurisdiction of Ghana was not subjective to the citizenship of the bearers of the card in accessing healthcare services?
