Dear VRA and ECG.

The long-lasting solution to this matter of electricity billing challenges is to adopt a single PER UNIT rate for all Consumers and Industries. The so-called "progress" billing method is outdated and unworkable in a 3rd World economy like ours.

Electricity usage should be billed on a single PER UNIT rate for all across board e.g. GHs.05/unit or GHs1.20/unit, etc. for everyone (applying whatever the agreed actual rate is) - NOT like the present system of.. First 40 units @GHs…/unit, Next 20 units @ xx/unit, etc. The single PER UNIT rate ensures:
• fairness,
• accuracy
• transparency and,
• simplicity.

Anyone can do a simple multiplication to check their usage. i.e. If Mr. A consumes 50 units, he pays 50 x GHs..yy. If Ms. B consumes 120 units, she pays 120 x same GHs..yy rate. In other words, the more units you use, the more you pay at the SAME rate. It is natural and common sense; if you buy 1 ball of kenkey, you pay 1xGHs1.00 if the price is GHs1.00. And if you buy 8 balls, you pay 8xGHs8.00. Simple. All the outmoded sentimental and “socialist” arguments regarding a utility billing system must be discarded – they are out of place. Electricity is a COMMERCIAL commodity, not a social item. Policy makers need to think seriously about this.

Btw 2013 and 2015 tariffs went up 6 different times - a total of 114%.meaning tax component(17.5%) up by 20%.if u add the 10% levy we are having an increase of about 145% from 2013.we all agree that during the dumsor period we had 50% power available.now with almost stable power ur consumption is twice the dumsor times making u pay like 290% almost 300% .that is the issue not any billing software.i can promise u this taskforce won't achieve anythbg u less govt redraws the 10% levy and purc with the utilities reduce the tariffs.lrt's be honest in this country and not allow politicians to play mind games with us.God bless Ghana.

Key ECG staff who are not politically aligned to current gov't have planned a brutal sabotage against the gov't.
The PRO of ECG apologetically explained that they had issues with data loss whilst implementing the new software and that only about 10% of customers are affected.
This is a big lie. The overbilling dates back to 2014 and 2015 at the height of the Dumsor. And also about 90% or more of customers are affected. Is there any electricity consumer who has not noticed an unusually high billing. The high billing was started during the dumsor but was unnoticeable as electris current usage was minimal.
ECG top officials must explain this in detail or resign en-block for a new Management to take over.
You can cheat some of the people all the time but you cannot cheat all the people all the time.
Apart from over billing, ECG has also failed intentionally to bill some customers who have been issued with ECG meters even after such staff have reported to ECG officials. That is also another sabotage.
The rot is just too much to stomach
