Red Herring is what we call this because it is a fact that herrings are never red. I wrote on this forum that since January 2016 my meter, which is a prepaid one, meaning that if I do not load it with unit bought from ECG it will not work always tell me that I need a unit of GHC135.00 per month. I also states that if a person was buying one unit for GHC,1.00 then now he need GHC1.55 for the same unit. This finding has revealed that the majority of Ghanaians who complain about been charge excess bill are just corrupt citizens who are up to steal electricity and among them is Nana Akufo-Addo and the entire NPP.

Dear Hon. MP's and fellow countrymen/women, the issue of wrongful/over-billing needs to be tackled in a new way. First, the ECG/VRA should consider using a SINGLE PER UNIT rate for all consumers. The graduated/band system is out of date. If the single unit rate is GHs1.00 for example, consumer A, using 20 units should be billed 20x GHs1.00=Ghs20.00. And consumer B who uses 150 unit will pay 150 GHs. Simple. This is fair. If you buy 1 ball of kenkey you pay GHs1.00, hence, if you buy 6 balls, you pay GHs6.00. Electricity is a commercial product (not a social good). We need to move away from the old "socialist" argument of "progressive", etc.

Secondly, in other countries nowadays, consumers are billed on AVERAGE throughout the year. No meter reading till year-end. Then there is a reconciliation. If you used more, you pay the difference. If less, you are credited. this saves $$$ millions for the electricity company, as there is no need for monthly meter reading or prepaid meters. Simple.

What's the explanation offered in this report? In one breath: "According to the members of the Energy Committee, high taxes by government, rather than faults by the service provider, are the reasons for the upward adjustment of bills"; and in another breath there were errors in the billing; therefore those who were overbilled will be reimbursed. And you called this Kojo man a member of the Parliamentary Energy Committee? This fool offered no explanation rather a lot of mumbo-jambo. Consumers are complaining of overbilling and you are talking of tariff adjustment being the cause.

We were all looking for explanation to the problem. No other body than the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, with members from NPP and NDC, have given the explanation, and we are calling them liars. That is ridiculous!

If the high bills are due to taxes then it must affect everybody but not a just a few people as he concludes.
Which taxes have caused the high bills and how has that caused the high taxes.
If there is no software problem as he claims then why will some people be refunded money for over billing.
This MP does not appear convincing and does not appear to be representing his people well in Parliarment. He deserves to be voted out of office.
