Then John Mahama hurriedly opens the sugar factory in Komenda attempting to be employing hundreds of thousands of the jobless without thinking about the raw materials being, sugarcane to feed the factory. “Criminals with small minds”…
  The fact of the matter is, NDC is doing everything to impose jon Mahama on us by all means because they know that most of them if not all of them will go to jail as soon as we have a new and shrewd president who is wise and incorruptible.
  Now their main intention is to get as many names as possible and infuse them onto the voter’s register so that they can use that numbers to steal votes for the jon Mahama, the Ali Baba and his 40 thieves.
  We must all be mindful because jon mahama has spent so much money to import arms into the country so that they will use them to fight as soon as they lose the battle. Even as most of his missionaries have been caught and imprisoned in places like the United States of America, they will not let I dare not wait on I would. Shine your eyes Ghanaians and make sure your identity is not used by a foreigner to vote for jon Mahama.

I think we should begin in SHS stage inculcate in the students mentality geared towards training their minds to solve local problems. We have in our educational curriculum so much contents which are unrelated to local problems And in the tertiary level where we train students has in many programmes lacking same. Our education should target local and peculiar problems from lower levels up.

  Both content and duration matters. Why stress on content and leave duration out. Ghanaian kids are under undue pressure and no wonder there are quite a sizable number of them roaming the streets. Something it took 7 years to accomplish in the old British system has been drastically reduced to just 3 years. Isn't it amazing to hear the Prof talking this way. It is all geared toward defending the so-called revolution and nothing else. And its because they were all part and parcel of it.

  I have chosen to respond to your particular comment because sometimes you (general) make the uninformed or ill-informed mistake of thinking the new system is just 3 or 4 years. What you fail to know is the fact that it is either 6 or 7 years. When the old system was admitting pupils from classes 5 and 6 through the common entrance examination it was okay. Remember the Junior Secondary/High School is part of the system. This argument is old and archaic. Instead of resourcing the individual institutions to better deliver you are rather arguing about wasting the precious and most important developmental period of our children's life in basic school. Think about that.

  The problem in Ghana is people like Akilagpa will rather spin the truth instead of telling the truth. In the U.S, you can do a 4 year degree in 2 years in you are ready to commit the time into it. The difference is that in the U.S, the resources are available to support the students. In Ghana we all know don't have the resources to help us to shorten the duration of the SSS. So instead of talking about content he should be telling the truth that due to lack of resources at our disposal 3 years is not the way to go.

In addition, if the students have more time the students the Syllabus get spaced adequately so they get more time to engage in equally important extra curricula activities such as involvement in debating societies, field excursions, sports, etc.

He must realize that duration is very important. Research has shown that students who did the 4-year SHS performed better in the universities than those students that did the 3-years SHS. This is common knowledge. He has to revise his notes.

  You are right Prof Sawyer. In all the Western World, pre-university education is 12 years. Why should Ghana's be extended another year? In deed, content and delivery are the main issues to revamp, not the duration.

  Schools must be well equipped with both teaching resources and human resources (well prepared teachers who are willing to teach and make a difference).

  Yes, it is good to call a spade a spade, and that is what reflects on the acquired intelligence displayed by the two; Dr Akilakpa Sawyerr and Dr Nii Moi Thompson. These men understand education and how it ought to be managed in order to help the students who want to be great in rhe area of education so that they would be of help to our nation.
  
  The acquisition of better education does not depend on the longer duration in the classroom but rather depends on the good and serious preparation of the students/pupils in the neglected basic level of education namely the kindergaten and the primary level, an area that holds the foundation of success in education.
  
  All Ghanaians have in reality never been aware of the fact that basic education is the sine qua non to the so called better levels/grades expected in the SHS leading to the universities which in turn produce good graduates with excellent results.

  He just said what John Mahama wants to hear. No one is questioning the content of the JSS and SHS (or whatever); Ghanaians are questioning the time it take to complete that content. Akilakpa knows that.

  My son was caught in the transition from 4 to 3yrs, and they and their teachers had to struggle needlessly to complete as much of the syllabus as possible in 2 and a half years. People don't realize is that we are really talking 2 amd a half year (3-yr) and 3 and a half year (4-yr). The primary reason the NDC insisted on cutting back the duration was to reduce the budget for secondary education. The student and quality of educational outcomes was secondary to that
