There is no reason whatsoever for NHIS to collapse. Apart from the premium paid, there is a 12% tax on all items that we buy on the market. This is all inclusive. 12% is also charged for the use of utilities. One wonders wher ...

Someone(s) must be siphoning the money to personal accounts. Uh!!

Health facilities have been stealing from members of the NHIS and the state by charging both members and NHIS for services and drugs.
In April this year two of my relatives delivered babies in two hospitals in Accra. A doctor at Ridge Hospital told the woman she has to go to Kasoa in the Central Region for delivery and charged her GHC880.00. The other who delivered at La Paz Community Hospital was charged GHC500.00 though delivery is covered by the NHIS.
For ease of reference let us quote the NHIS Minimum Health Care Benefits on Antenatal and Postnatal SCHEDULE II, PART I, Section 5: Maternity Care including
a. Antenatal Care,
b. Deliveries, namely, normal and assisted
c. Caesarian Section
d. Postnatal Care
We expect health care professionals including the Ghana Medical Association to be above corruption, but they are some of the most corrupt professionals in the country.
I am at a lost when corrupt people like this rather point their finger at the NHIS. Police Hospital for instance is not a first point facility for members of NHIS it is a referral facility.
In due course we shall be publishing the names of medical officers who charge and collect money from both NHIS members and NHIS a day light robbery on the NHIS and the public.

The number of foreigners who enjoy the NHIS are more that Ghanaians. Those in Togo use that to come to our hospital for free. We can't even get it. We always have to plead with DCE's before the lucky ones are issued the cards ...
