Its also shameful that ECG incompetency hasn't been handled in anyway since the company's inefficiency in the past decades. Why not fixing all the heads of department since they are responsible for the billing problems. Ghanaians are not robots to give away all the pay checks you earn to these idiots at ECG. How much do I get paid as a teacher? Nothing more than 500 cedi. How can I pay 700 cedi in light bills. This is crazy. Do they want us to suffocate and die, or be beggars in our homeland?

Your argument is wrong on so many levels that I have to assume you have very little education in economics; specifically public and government sector economics. Who told you it is the government's job to provide jobs? The government is only to hire the amount of people absolutely necessary to run it; it is further tasked with creating and environment conducive to job creation by the private sector by enacting the right laws and giving the right incentives for job creation. Whenever you have the government as the largest employer in the nation, you end up with a bloated, ineffective, unproductive, unprofessional, lazy bureaucracy. Take a look a how ECG is run right now, take a look at how passport office, Lands department, building permit department, water department and the Ghana broadcasting corporation are run; they are all terrible with mostly incompetent and unqualified workers. Now, I know that not all the aforementioned departments should be privatized for national security reasons but I wanted to demonstrate the results of a bloated bureaucracy. A lot of the departments run by the government now should be privatized or at least open to private sector competition and you will find most people abandoning the government services for private ones. Look at the medical services industry for instance. Do you prefer Korlebu to private hospitals? Do you prefer public school to private ones? I rest my case.

That guy is a lazy cocoon! The ECG is inefficient and he is crying about people losing their positions? They can not even collect on the electricity usage, and workers are milking the system; installing bogus meters and collecting money for themselves!

The Private industry will make sure to collect money for usage or they will cut folks off the grid, so you are not going to pay for someone stealing power or others not paying.

I think good workers must not be afraid of being laid off!

With the private sector, as with the government, those who do not pay their power bill will be cut off. The difference is, with the private sector, you can't go and bribe someone in the government offices to come and reconnect you so you can have free power for months; you will not have to bribe someone in the private sector to come and do the job you have already paid for and they the employees are paid a salary to do. In the private sector, your complaints of disatisfaction is taken seriously instead of being laughed at behind your back after you lodge a complaint in the government sector. You must be a government worker because you made very little sense in your comment. Idiocy is abundant in Ghana!!!!

ECG is a monopoly company and again provide essential service which all Ghanaians can't do without (to some limit). Privatising ECG means good delivery of service from the Americans but we must be ready to pay for it because a monopoly firm usually experience lost and normal profit just in the short run and abnormal/gargantuan profit in the long run. But prices might not go astronomical high because government might intervene.
Since there is a huge investment from the investors they will do everything possible to safeguard their money by making sure that there is efficiency and corruption free in ECG.
Why do you think every national service personnel always wish to do their services in some of these companies? It's because of the small chop chop there.
Let's be bold and let the right thing be done.

For instance, rampant illegal connections to receive illegal fees are done by ECG staff themselves. Also, ECG officers deliberately frustrate their customers as a way of causing them to pay them bribes particularly when new connections are made. And the icing on the cake concerning ECG inefficiencies is the current overbilling of their customers to make the government unpopular. Only an inefficient mind can allow his work to be used for political ends.
The president is therefore right to observe that ECG is inefficient and must be fixed.

It is the right way to go. If workers will be laid of on privatization, then that simply means there are too many unused hands getting paid from monies raised from electricity bills. This is just one of the numerous inefficiencies leading to hiked electricity bills. How can any serious company role out such terrible meters to over charge its unsuspecting clients? Not to mention the poor management of power supply. Power in Ghana is a stranger to stability. The senior staff should have put their brains at work and proved some competence. Privatization would never have been a choice.

Now Ghanaians can all see where the Sabotage of the Government is coming from. It is coming from deep high up the ladder of the ECG Management Staff.
They are not happy that the United States and Government of Ghana are planning to revolutionalise the administration of power distribution in Ghana.
Apparently these staff of ECG are so callous as to put Ghanaians through such hardships of paying far more than the government has approved as ECG bills. They are doing this with their political allies who want to come to power by all means even if all Ghanaians have to die for that to happen.
God is alive and will reveal all the misdeeds of the enemy one by one.

ONCE HE GETS YOUR VOTES , YOU ARE FINISHED FOR 4 MISERABLE YEARS. IF ECG IS GIVEN THE SAME CONDITIONS AS THOSE WHO WILL TAKE OVER, ECG WILL DO BETTER. INCIDENTALLY WHO PURCHASED THE PREPAID METERS FOR ECG?????

I think the president's analogy of the ECG privatisation and the telecom industry is flawed. ECG is a state monopoly or are plans to allow other power distributors into the system, if so he didn't tell us. Liberalisation of the telecom industry brought along multiple competitors (Tigo, Vodafone, mtn, kasapa, airtel and glo). If I don't like the services of mtn I can opt for any of the other service providers. The same cannot be said of the power distribution sector. The lessons of aqua vitin should guide. That failed because that was another state monopoly. Mr President in economics the is something called social goods e.gs are water, power, road and private sector hardly invest in them. At this point I am compelled to believe it is the MCA conditions that is compelling you to privatise ECG but I promise it will fail just aqua vitin failed Ghana water unless you introduce several competitors (power distributors) as in the case of the telecom industry.
