But as soon a gift is likeyl to influence a decison, especially when the give wants some business contract or previously had been awarded one then that is no longer a gift BUT bribe.

I remember at a PTA meeting, a parent suggested that all parents pay some amount so we could buy a present for a female teacher who was going to have a birthday.
Her response was straight forward - 'that would be bribery and she is not required to do that'.
She suggested that it was enough for her, if the kids would sing 'Happy Birthday To You ..' 3 times.
So whoever you are, I tell you to drop you ignorance on gifts, bribery and corruption.

In Germany for instance, the teacher of your child will not even a HANDKERCHIEF as gift from you as a parent of that child, let alone a gift. And at most public offices, it is not permitted to do literal handshaking to greet. It is just OK to say 'Good Morning' etc.
Mahama's case is just a case of bribery and nothing describes the situation better.
