When an offence is being committed, the police can arrest to stop the continuation of the offence, eg assault, unlawful demonstration or a radio program that is inciting violence. But when this is not the case, and when it is not a felony, the police need not arrest or 'take a person in their custody'. Reporting yourself to police upon invitation is perfectly normal. Even when informed by others that you are wanted by the Police. In Ghana we turn to use the police to punish people by detention when even the person incarceration does not in anyway advance the cause of justice. It is only the Court that can remand a person or cause him to be detained by the Police for a period. This attitude of the alleged offender having been detained for a very such time or never having been detained is not best practice. It amounts to abuse of police powers and discretion.

John Mahama is directly behind it and endorses the conduct, actions and words of the lawless brigands in his unholy quest to maintain power he has lost at all cost by truncating the very foundation of democratic governance which is the rule of law and all it's representation.
For our democracy to survive this onslaught of thuggery, murderous violence, intimidation and threats, fear and impunity that is being advanced by the NDC govt led by John Mahama must be condemned and Ghana must stand on side of the rule of law, participatory democracy and good governance.
The judiciary is counting on Ghanaians to serve as the bulwark and support against a gov't deeply in love with authoritarianism and dictatorship and misses the "old golden days of impunity". Ghana deserves change and change must come.
