This second case was just a complete waste of precious judicial time. It was unnecessary and tantamount to the EC causing financial loss to the state.

His case is not foolish. If it becomes evident that EC did not present a full list of those who registered with the NHIS card then they are rather in contempt of court. Abu has at least succeeded in getting approximately 5600 ...

His case is not foolish. If it becomes evident that EC did not present a full list of those who registered with the NHIS card then they are rather in contempt of court. Abu has at least succeeded in getting approximately 56000 names off the list who should not be on there. I strongly believe there are more names than that. The EC will smell pepper if they actually publish the list and it becomes evident that they didn't get all the names right. To flush out the rest of the people who registered with the NHIS but was not captured by the EC on their list, people should be made to bring IDs when coming to vote on Nov or Dec 7th. If you don't have one, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.
After the EC publishes the list, people should be asked to check and make sure that they get registered again. So whose case is foolish now BOY KOFI?

And he is not a member of any of the parties mentioned in your comment, and whichever party losing or winning is not his concern. The right thing must be done, as according to the SC's instructions. Any body, including the EC chair, thinking otherwise should consider his/her love for the country not genuine. For the EC chair, a whole legal professional, to allow this situation to linger on till this time, and to have overlooked or pretended not to understand the first directive of the SC is a shame. This justifies the frustrations and criticisms of many a citizen. SC has done a good job but it seem to be too little too late, given the fact that there is not enough time to have a complete settlement of the voter register issues still lingering. God help Ghana!!

If the EC in fact did not get the whole list, wouldn't it be unfair to those who are not given the chance to re enter their names? I hope all the political parties press for people to show their ID cards when they are coming to vote. The fact that your name is on the list does not necessarily mean you did not register with your NHIS card - it may well be that the EC did not include you on their list to the SC because they just missed you!

Maybe EC should encourage voluntary declarations of those who registered with their NHIS cards but were missed on their 56000 list. Will they (EC) allow that, maybe not because then it will mean they didn't do their work well.

The fact is that decision of court rather will pave way for real computer work to remove names of people in a stronghold targets of a party because it is humans who will operate the deletions intentionally for purposes to satisfy court but may not be really meant to satisfy those who are now happy of the deletion.

Why are they inviting the plaintiffs to bring in fresh applications? Why did they not just explain their earlier decision and leave the plaintiffs on their own as to their next step? Why is the SC prolonging this simple matter? Now the plaintiffs are going to come again and say the procedure being used to re-register NHIS is suspicious and so on. These people could sue in a lower court to have their names in the EC register. It is their basic rights to vote.

The Supreme Court has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to take immediate steps to delete the names of all unqualified persons on the electoral roll as stated in its earlier judgment delivered on May 5, 2016.
This includes the names of some 56,739 persons the Commission presented to the court as persons who registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards as proof of their citizenship.

In a ruling Tuesday to clarify the judgement, the court stated that the order for the deletion of unqualified persons on the voters register "takes precedence over all statuary legislations including CI 9”.

Reading the judgement, Justice Sulley Gbadegbe said, "The EC is therefore ordered to take all the necessary steps to delete the names submitted to the court"

The court also ordered the EC to delete the names of those who are not qualified but whose names were not submitted to the court.

It also ordered the EC to give adequate notice to persons affected by the deletion and afford them ample time to re-register if they qualify to enable them vote in the 2016 elections.
