On Monday he was quite ok but wasn't discharged. His parents and auntie in cape also came in. On Tuesday morning he passed. The family have actually thanked the college for the care shown the boy. Match this with the story out there!

Augusco is not only my Alma Mater but I was also in St John's House. There is no way a House Master will deny a student exact to go home when ill. In fact, in our time, our late Housemaster (the late M P Otwe/Coach) will ensure that your parents picked you up from school. You would not be sent home alone when you are ill but sent to Cape Coast Hospital for medical attention first before your parents are informed or asked to pick you from school.

This is a very unfortunate tragedy for the family and the school. My condolences to the family, his friends and the school.

That means on any other day when you are sick you will be attended by the school nurse who will only give you painkillers such as paracetamol. They only send you to the hospital when they judge that the ailment is serious. Things are not right in that school.

House masters and mistresses should have a system whereby parents of students are notified in a timely manner when their wards are sick or asks permission to go home. We have cell phones and email addresses. Why are the schools not making good use of such tools?
This incident should be investigated and any one found to have caused any negligence should be charged.

But there should be an independent enquiry as to how the boy died. This is very important and will shed more light on how sick or unwell students are looked after in this boarding schools. Sometimes there is a lot of neglect and looking the other way when problems arise in these schools. That has to stop.

Ghana SHS are like glorified cor penitentiary they treat us like prisoners alright you don't have access to even go out for very reasonable situations.

Suing school authorities will not be a solution to exeat problems. What is needed is constructing a legal framework around exeats in areas of health. What the GES must do is to ensure that every student before admission to ss1 submit a health report on specific illnesses and allergies and also a need for every student to have a recommended private General medical practitioner that can be contacted in case of emergencies. Parents must have a constant communication with school authorities on the health of their wards and make their contacts numbers available to school authorities in case of any health problem. Sick bays and school infirmaries are only for observational purpose rather than treatment and therefore do not have the facilities to keep students. when these are put in place, granting of exeat can be made more appropriate to avoid any legal tussle.

On Monday he was quite ok but wasn't discharged. His parents and auntie in cape also came in. On Tuesday morning he passed. The family have actually thanked the college for the care shown the boy. Match this with the story out there!

I's the school now a hospital. Who ever denied the boy to go home for proper care should be held responsible. I hope the family do that. Only a few days ago OP got 6 years for killing his girlfriend. The law works for all.
