Quality and free are not synonymous but they do not antonyms either. It can be free and qualitative as well, so lets welcome the promises. Good for the goose is good for the geese

Anis Haffar does not seem to know the country he is writing about. He needs not to travel far out of Accra, to learn the difficulties parents face in putting their kids through even basic education. Out there in the known hard pressed rural areas, could be worse. As a matter of fact, real free education is what will be needed to take some households out of poverty. We have an example to learn from. The many northern men with doctorate degrees we now have in the country did not come as a matter of course. A free and good educational system opened the way for them. We need not reinvent the wheel, it is right here, we only have to take hold of it.

Where is the money going to come from to finance free education?
The Northern policy was to address a particular colonial problem of keeping the North uneducated and backward. It so happens that governments have continued with it for purely political reasons.
It would be very expensive to extend it to the rest of the country. Better to stick with the present policy of targetting free education at the most deprived communities around the country. This is affordable and progressive.

Well said , education is the wholesome training of the mind through learning, acquiring the knowledge of this world of wonder created by an all knowing and mysterious God whose ways are not our ways.infrastructure is a vital component in the delivery of quality education and in fact the very basic component. What we lack in Ghana to complement infrastructure is patriotism and hard work. Too many hypocrites are occupying sensitive positions in this country both in industry academia and in fact in the society generally. The fact that one is highly educated does not mean one is a patriot. I was surprised to learn that a former British Prime Minister's wife never had a car and had just recently bought an old used car. I also read some where and actually saw a picture of Bill Gates wife carrying a bucket of water from the river side in Uganda with the rural folks. In Ghana it was only Dr Nkrumah who be came president without a house and left the presidency without a house. So also was president Hilla Limann who became a president without a house and left the presidency without one. We need such people to rule us.

Two couples are playing cards. John accidentally drops some cards on the floor. When he bends down under the table to pick them up, he notices that Bill's wife isn't wearing any underwear. Later, John goes into the kitchen to get some refreshments. Bill's wife follows him and asks, "Did you see anything that you liked under there?" John admits that he did. She says, "You can have it, but it will cost you $100." They decide that John should come to her house around 2 p.m. on Friday while Bill is at work. On Friday, John arrives at 2 p.m. He pays Bill's wife $100. They go to the bedroom, have sex and then John leaves. When Bill comes home at 6 p.m., he asks his wife, "Did John come by this afternoon?" Reluctantly, she replies, "Yes, he did stop by for a few minutes." Next Bill asks, "Did he give you $100?" She thinks, "Oh hell, he knows!" Finally she says, "Well, yes, he did give me $100." "Good," Bill says. "John came by the office this morning and borrowed $100 from me. He said that he would stop by our house on his way home and pay me back."

Education and private schools is problematic we have more private schools in the country more than state ones and we were told sometime ago that the private schools will give us better knowledge and skills than the state ones.
Now we are been told by owners of private schools that they fail to give knowledge and skills to our children. I am of the view that we should all march to those schools and collect the fees we paid to them for wasting the time, money and resources of the citizen with the lie of educating our children. It looks like some of our intellectuals including those who run those private schools have what we shall call political swing syndrome, that when their party is in power they see nothing wrong with education, but when their party is out of power education is bad, even the children we paid them to educate are rotten eggs to them.
