German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has a new namesake: a refugee’s baby from Ghana.

The baby Angela Merkel Ade was born on 2 February and lives with her mother and 730 other asylum seekers in a former hospital that was turned into a refugee shelter in Hanover, the German news agency DPA reported.

Angela’s 26-year-old mother, Ophelya Ade, was quoted as saying that she chose her daughter’s name because the German chancellor “is a very good woman, I like her”.

Rules for name-giving in Germany are very strict, and last names cannot usually be used as first or middle names. City spokesman Alexis Demos couldn’t immediately tell the Associated Press why Angela Merkel was accepted as a first name.

Last month Merkel, the chancellor, had an emotional encounter with a Palestinian teenager which left her momentarily speechless and went viral. Merkel was unable to adequately explain to the girl, Reem, why she faced the threat of deportation, but rubbed her shoulder as she sobbed.

German officials subsequently said the girl would be allowed to stay in the country.

Feeling pains and sensations could be symptomatic of anything why should it be spiritual by all means? He felt someone retarded his progress, really? The marriage counsellors who are pushing young financially unstable people into marriage in the name of 'ELEVATION' should take a cue. Financial stability is the cause of a lot of difficulties in marriage. If your police salary is not enough for you now how do you expect to 'manage' with a spouse and kids.

Know yourself and how you react to poverty.

If poverty gives you excessive mental stress, put your self in a better place before you take on marriage and kids.

If you fail to do so, it may drive you crazy or into depression.

Securing your finances before marriage is not materialistic, it is wise. There is nothing wrong with delaying marriage to 36 or 40 do you and your family can be comfortable.

Some people are just not made for poverty.....know your self.

If your police salary is not enough for you push yourself up and to something else that brings in more income. I learnt this early in life.

Its a sad story and a lot has to be learnt to avert future occurrence. From Domestic Abuse to killing family members. The estranged wife should look for a REPUTABLE LAWYER to sue the Ghana Police.

Are the Police incompetent to deal with threats of MURDER? or was it deliberate failure to apply the law becuase the murderer was a policeman?

I'm appalled at the rife tribalism on display here. I was under the illusion that Ghana had progressed and left such divisive sentiments behind. Murder-Suicide is a common occurrence all over the world, especially those that arise from marital strife. It is disheartening to see the level of ignorance of some comments made here, finding a way to politicize and turn this tragedy into an Ewe bashing forum. Anyone from any country or tribe can at anytime commit a heinous crime, under the right circumstances. And we call the whites racists. Sad.
