An Arab has spent many days crossing the desert without finding a source of
water. It gets so bad that his camel dies of thirst. He's crawling through the
sands, certain that he has breathed his last, when all of a sudden he sees a
shiny object sticking out of the sand several yards ahead of him.
He crawls to the object, pulls it out of the sand, and discovers that he has
a Manischevitz wine bottle. It appears that there may be a drop or two left in
the bottle, so he unscrews the top and out pops a genie. But, this is no
ordinary genie. This genie appears to be a Hassidic rabbi, complete with black

Amoako Baah and the NPP see the whole issue as a litigational issue between their NPP and the NDC, thus they are ready to use the release of the 3 by Mahama's intervention to create the typical Ashanti mentality of onesided mentality of hating other people when they are not of their tribe. Now, it is up to Mahama to do what he wants bcos it is the application of the law and nothing more.

The 3 in question had not done anything that had not been done before in relation to utterances which are not acceptable in terms of morality. Kennedy Agyapong did the worse when he asked the Ashantis to kill the Gas and the Ewes. A situation which is highly terrible if those tribes had reacted with anger in relation to the call.

There isn't anything wrong if Mahama set them free with the said Article legally. That legal reference is not stated that it should consider a special case, If so, where is the wrong in the case of the trio. Did not Kufour set some prisoners free who may perhaps be of the NPP that Kufour knew but was not known to the public? He as well set some political members of the NDC free. Would one had said anything against it if the prisoners set free by Kufour's amnesty were NPP known members?

That Baah and the NPP are too much engulfed by the Ashanti primitive mentality of litigation which creat more division than the needed unity. The Ashanti mind is a nuisance to Ghana because in everything that they are in involved they drag it into fight just like they primitively did to the KMA man Kojo Bonsu when they never have any legal right to put their mouth into the affairs of the KMA. It is unfortunate this can only happen with these primitive Ashantis in that region.

I'm not a lawyer, but people like Prof. Karikari and Dr. Amoako Bahh are totally wrong in this respect. Obviously, the Supreme Court has acted in this case as police, prosecutor and judge at the same. This is a case involving them and therefore it is grossly inappropriate for the Supreme Court justices to sit on the case themselves and try and decide the fate of the Monte 3. That's not justice.

What the Supreme Court has done in this case is purely an exercise of abuse of power. They sat on a case involving themselves and rendered judgement in their own favour. It is to ensure checks and balances of a constitution that Ghana, like almost all countries the world over, has three branches of government, viz., the Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature. If a constitution is to function properly, as intended, then the people cannot and must not allow this kind of abuse of power by the Supreme Court to prevail. The other two branches, the Executive and the Legislature, must therefore act quickly to nip in the bud any negative effects that the Supreme Court's biased and arbitarary decision and action must engender.

I'm of the opinion that those who are agitating that the President must step in by exercising his presidential prerogative to pardon the Monte 3 are right. This will only right the wrong the Supreme Court has done.

It must be recalled that when former President John Kufuor, who seemed bent on having Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, the former CEO of the GNPC prosecuted, lost the Supreme Court case early in his administration, he quickly stepped in and merely increased the number of the justices of the court from 9 to 12---his three newly-appointed justices being favourable to Kufuor's position---and they now reversed their earlier decision from "Not guilty" to "Guilty" against Tsikata. The President thus respected and acted upon the advice of his NPP counsel.

Of course, it was totally outrageous, if not immoral, for Kufuor to do such a thing, but Ghanaians by and large kept quiet and didn't protest. Surely, it's only in Ghana that a president can wield such power and authority to interfere with the composition of a Supreme Court. Can anyone imagine such a thing happening, say, in the United States, Canada, the U.K., or in any of the Western democracies? Can anyone imagine President Obama increasing the number of the justices of the U. S. Supreme Court by three with the express purpose of overturning the decision of the court in connection with his exercising of executive power that was against him? But it did happen in Ghana!

Surely, the Supreme Court has been excessive in this case, considering all the factors, especially the apology the Monte 3 had rendered to the court and their remorse that showed in their demeanour. The President therefore has a bounden duty to step in. If Ghanaians like Prof. Karikari, Dr. Amoako Baah, Kweku Baako and the numerous NPP apparatchicks have allowed their party affiliation to cloud their vision and fail to look at the bigger picture, then they and the Supreme Court have set a very unfortunately unhealthy precedent that will come back to haunt them and the country for a long time to come.

But one must ask Dr. Baah, did Kufuor set a constitutional crisis when he increased the Supreme Court justices' number from 9 to 12? Was it not Kufuor's NPP lawyers who strongly advised him to take the action that he took? Were those lawyers bad lawyers? Why are you people so shamefully hypocritical?

If what is good for the geese is good for the gander, then President Mahama must act quickly and exercise his presidential prerogative and save Ghana.

That is very different from being on radio and insulting and threatening to.attack Supreme Court judges. The two scenarios are very different. Adam Sakande's sentence attracted remission. In the case of a sentence for contempt of court there is no remission.
