You are contempt of Court when you intentionally seek to influence the decision of judges through intimation, or even rejudge the decision.

The purpose of contempt in law is to give fair hearing and sound decision without anyone feeling unfairly treated.
In any case, there are always reviews and appeals in any case and even the option of taking laws interpreted to Parliament for clarity.
It is disingenious to interfere with cases in court even if you assume the results will not be fair.
There are better ways to address such issues.
I have seen judges in other nations suspended or demoted for not doing justice to cases.
It is always wise to give an opinion after a case and not during the case.

If iam a Judge and some one like Kennedy Agyepong media house was involved in contempt case, me as an NDC Judge can even exonerated the accused but I can ban his media house from not working for period of time likewise npp Judges. So it very dangerous.

Contempt cases should be limited to only what people do or say in the courtroom,it should not be extended to what people do or say outside the court room,by so doing the Supreme Court will be performing its constitutional duties instead of acting like a lower court, criminal cases are limited to lower courts and people who are not satisfied with a ruling by a lower court could decide to go to the Supreme Court which rarely happens.
We are abusing the contempt law making it the order of the day with everybody going to court everyday to file charges for contempt of court,it is just too much.

This is recipe for corruption and unfairness.
It is in the interest of the justices of the court to get this clarified or they risks turning public sentiments against them.
The montie 3 saga does not confer any goodwill on our judges with or without a presidential pardon.
All over the world, where judges have such sweeping powers, the public have vented their anger directly at the judiciary. Without the backing of government, judges become very vulnerable indeed.
There are certain courtesies extended to judges that are not in the constitution. These courtesies are extended to the judges because of the goodwill they have with the executive arm of government. The judges risks losing these courtesies if they flex their muscles and undermine the executive arm of the state.
The montie 3 should have been spared jail since they were arguably acting in support of the executive arm of the state.
There will definitely be a palpable backlash on the judiciary. Concessions will be severely curtailed. The executive will read political cues from the action and the judges concerned will have no courtesies extended to them. It is bad for everyone. This is what i call the lip biting time.

I don't think the NDC ever thought contempt applies to them and the fact that they are calling on John Mahama to overturn a Supreme Court decision in a democracy emphasis on a democracy, where the rule of law is sacrosanct, should it ever occur in this country, then Ghana would have succeeded in creating it's own;
"His Excellency, President for Life, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in general and Uganda in particular Field Marshal Alhadji Dr. Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MCE, CBE" genie in this country.
That genie should it accede to the request and pardon the agents of anarchy by those urging him on, would have taken a fatal step, not supported by our democracy and any means necessary would be appropriate and supported to return that genie back into that bottle to ensure the stability, health, survival and wellbeing of our democracy and our nation state underpinned by the rule of law from the specter of lawlessness, irresponsibility, wanton impunity and gross disrespect for order and discipline required of the state.

Ghana must protect its Democracy but this Contempt law can pick any Journalist at all. With the wrong President, the Judges could do and undo. We accept the Judiciary is a very reputable institution which would not yield easily to draconian treatments when free speech seemed to have gone overboard. Seasoned journalists who in the past have got their guests storming out of the Studio with unsavoury questions must now watch their back. The re-defining of this piece of legislation is now urgent.
