But the President of the Federation, for whatever reason, was 'persuaded' somehow, to put Kaya's name forward for the wild card. She did not even qualify through any senior rankings or through any senior competitions. It was like sending a kid swimmer (not even won a medal in age divisions in Spain btw) to the Olympics. Like you're going to Disneyland if you can afford it you buy a ticket. It sucks for the athletes who actually work hard, it means they can't speak up because they get banned, and furthermore it means that no one can get sponsorship because sponsors don't want to be held hostage by federation presidents so it hurts everybody in the long run because without sponsorship sports can't develop and grow in the country for the benefit of many youth. The Presidents of the Federations need to be told that if they want to receive government money and backing they have to play by clearly defined rules and transparency in selection criteria. Pure and simple. SPorts is about performance on a level playing field. Not about favouritism. The Vice President of the Country and the President of the country need to know what is going on and step in to clean it up because it affects the youth and sports is a good way of promoting the country abroad so success at international events is the most effective way of presenting a country's youth and potential and stories of the athletes. That's why so many countries spend so much time and effort on things like the Olympics. IT MATTERS.

Swimming peaks early at a young age. At most she has one more maybe two more Olympics. That's all. AT MOST! And that's if she can keep up with the pace of training. Unless she goes into this full time, and no school, given how far behind she lags at the moment (her times are slower than Paralympians at international level), she can maybe get another wild card at the next olympics or make the qualifying time but she is way way behind at her age and compared to her peers. !14 year olds in Europe and america and asia are scoring better results and winning acutal medals at national and internatinoal competitions. She has just won a Ghana national medal which is not hard considering there's only a handful of other swimmers. If she'd won a european or even a Spanish title cos she's based in spain then you could say she's on a par with other teens. This is silly!

I don't think the Honourable Vice President has all the facts and has probably been given a right old spin on this girl. The facts are: 1) this young girl's swim times were slower than paralympian swimmers at international level. 2) she came third in her heat out of three people 3) She has never won any medals at an international event 4) the other swimmer who was booted out has actually won International medals in Germany and in Lagos (I looked up their records) 5) This girl did not actually qualify through qualifying rounds but the president of the federation lobbied for her for the wild card. So the Vice president should be asking instead why is it that one girl was booted out who had better times and had invested more in her sport and passion at the expense of this girl? What was the motivation and who benefitted? Ophelia would have probably got eliminated first round too but the point isthat she has done more to earn her place which was really rightfully hers. The Vice President needs to be asking why it is that sports in ghana doesn't do well because of these discrepancies. No one in their right mind would sponsor an athlete if after years of sponsoring the athlete they would not be allowed to participate because one man, the federation president decides who goes and who stays. No child would invest their time hopes and dreams if they can be squashed just like that. And no parent would put in the dedication, sacrifice, time and money in supporting their child if the system is not based on merit but based on who has the connections to treat the Olympic games as though it's a trip to Disney World! This is not a criticism of the Vice president but a criticism of the way the federations are run and allowed to be run in this crooked way and whoever is doing PR for this girl because frankly it's ufair that Martha Bissah and Ophelia Swain were denied their opportunities because the presidents of their respective federations have a personal grudge! In the long term it's not in the interests of the nation to allow this type of thing to be allowed.

I'm sorry I think you have misunderstood. When I refer to the PResident I am not referring to the honourable President of the country. I am refering to the president of the sporting federation. I think you did not understand. And I am also saying that the problem is that the Vice president probably has not been given the information about what has been going on behind the scenes. The federations make sure they keep all the facts away from the authorities so they can keep doing what they are doing. So no disrespect to the VP or the President of the country. The problem that I'm highlighting is that the individuals involved in promoting this young swimmer are not being truthful and the president of the FEDERATION (not the president of the country), is doing something very strange in promoting a very novice swimmer over a more experienced swimmer that should have gone to the Olympics. Olympics is not Disney world, you should not be able to just buy a ticket and get in.
